Rating: Summary: We Get By With A Little Help From Our Friends Review: After the Breakup is full to bursting with great commisseration and advice from women going through breakups. If you are or ever have been going through a breakup and have asked yourself, "Am I the only one feeling this way?", this book is for you! Although my breakup was a year ago, when a friend shared this book with me recently I really dug it. It's such a relief to hear the strong, and sometimes scared, voices of other women going through the same craziness. Breaking up can feel very alienating and lonely. After the Breakup provides a chorus of affirmation.
Rating: Summary: This book could save your life and make you laugh! Review: After the Breakup, et al., is a one-of-a-kind resource for women who have experienced or are experiencing a breakup from a significant non-marital relationship. It's unique because it particularly addresses non-marital relationships which tend to be overlooked and/or minimized in other breakup resources. It's also unique because it addresses such a diverse range of women, diverse in age, sexual orientation, and length of relationship. The book is fun to read because it is based on women's personal stories, so it's like having a room full of women who understand what you are going through and can assure you that things will get better. It's also wonderful to read about all of the different ways women cope with breakups and all of the kinds of issues that come up with each different case. Finally, the book is positive, well-structured and well-researched, and provides many solutions for the difficult emotional and physical rubble that comes out of breaking up.
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: Desperate for comfort when my marriage caved in, I picked up this book, despite my misgivings. Written by two freelance writers, (not professional therapists), it suffers from the clunky, impersonal, humorless style of a bloated magazine article, and is about as helpful. With advice like, "Some people find it useful to reconnect with their friends. Others like to spend time alone", and other simplistic and obvious platitudes, this book describes the hell that women go through afer a break-up, but offers no real help getting through it. There are no exercises, no resources (such as where to go to get counseling, or phone numbers for suicide hotlines), and no real focus. Most of the professional advice that is given from therapists and counselors is taken from other books. These women didn't even do their own research! A quick search through the Amazon Relationship book section will turn up half a dozen more promising books. Don't settle for this one, you'll be wasting your money.

Rating: Summary: What a lifesaver Review: Just a few pages into this book, I felt instantly better. It's not that you forget all the pain you've been through dealing with your breakup, it's just that reading about all these women dealing with the same pain, emptiness, loneliness and confusion makes you instantly feel less pain, emptiness, loneliness and confusion. Especially wonderful about this book is that it deals with male/female and female/female relationships, the latter relationship one that most books overlook. I've recommended it to many of my broken-hearted friends.
Rating: Summary: What a treasure! Review: The authors of this book do an incredible job of crystallizing the whole crazy range of emotions women experience after a breakup-- and the women quoted throughout the book are so honest and real, they're a tremendous comfort. I heartily recommend this book to anyone who's feeling the effects of a breakup, no matter how long the relationship lasted or how much time has passed since it ended. This book was a godsend!
Rating: Summary: My Woobie Review: The past month I've been trying to get my pieces together after a painful breakup. This book helped me a lot.I found there chapters talking about feelings I thought I only had. When you realise that many others have been where you are now you can get strong and optimistic. This book has interviews of many women that had managed and left behind a breakup. On the other hand I didn't find many suggestions on how to get over your ex (most of the women interviewed had ended the relationships themselves) and half and more of the interviews has to do with women who had relationships with other women. I don't have any objection to this but I can't put myself and my feelings to the same category with theirs. I think I will have other feelings if I lose my boyfriend, other if I lose a relative and other if I lose a girlfriend. So this book helps you realise that you're not the only one hurt but not such a good help on how to forget your old boyfriend. It's just a schedule showing you from what levels your feelings are going to pass.
Rating: Summary: A Must-Have for Surviving a Breakup Review: This book was a life-saver for me. I would highly recommend it to anyone going through a painful breakup. I bought a bunch of self-help books when my breakup happened, and this was far and away the most helpful, insightful, comforting book of all. The authors did a wonderful job with interviewing a wide array of women going through the same pain. When you feel like the only one in the world feeling the way you do, it's great to know that you're not alone. This is one of the most helpful books I've ever read. Buy it, read it, and feel like you'll actually survive the breakup.
