Summary: Ms. Divinyi Really Gets it!!
Review: Ms. Divinyi's new book is a treasure! Every bit as important and as insightful as her earlier works, 5 Main Things is full of invaluable tools for managing difficult behavior. It is written in clear and consice terms that all readers can understand. While its concepts are easily understood by the layman, the author never patronizes or condescends; she has a remarkable ability to communicate effectively with a highly diverse audience. Whether speaking to teachers or clinicians, working professionals, teenage mothers, or to the children themselves, she is respectful and articulate. Her warm, supportive style and important message come through loud and clear.

The message is that discipline is more effective than punishment, that teaching a child self-management skills is what allows him to make appropriate choices, and that understanding how feelings drive behavior is critical to changing negative behavior. This message is more critical today than ever before. As a juvenile justice professional, working with some of the most difficult children and parents imaginable, for the last 16 years, I can testify to this material's effectiveness. Our court makes Joyce Divinyi's training mandatory for all families and staff. This book will be mandatory reading for all parents from now on.
