Summary: Not Appropriate for Younger Girls
Review: I bought this for my 11 year old sister because looking at the title "The Period Book" I thought it would be what I was looking for to explain puberty. Then I get the book and am flipping through it and come to page 13 with a sketch of a nude girl with a line pointing to her genitals and a sketch of a nude boy with a line pointing to his genitals. I wasn't aware that boys got periods. Page 16 has a diagram of a female's genitals with the different parts labelled and the next page has the lovely sentence, "The clitoris is responsible for many of the pleasurable feelings women experience when they have sex". Like I said, I've only flipped through the book, not read it from cover to cover, but have read enough to know this book isn't appropriate for an 11 year old.

Summary: Mom, ...could...you...come....here...for...a...minute????
Review: I got this for my soon to be fourteen year old last year in anticipation of the "blessed" event. At first she said "EEEWWWW" too, but then later she read it cover to cover, re-read it and has shared it with her friends. A great door-opener for Moms and a myth-debonker for her. I'm re-ordering to send one to my 12 yr old niece for Christmas. Personally, I thought it was a little too much info for a nine or ten year old unless she is maturing early.

Summary: Not for pre-teens or younger
Review: I picked this book up, looking for something to facilitate the "big talk" with my 9 year old daughter. She knew the very basics, but nothing physiological. I came across startlingly inappropriate information for the suggested age range of this book. It was just too much info for children.

I was looking for a description of how menstruation work, not that you can get pregnant from sperm on a finger! How do you work that into a conversation with a 9 year old who isn't old enough to stay home alone, let alone start thinking about sex or boys in that light yet? This book may work for some families, but I chose not to give it to my daughter. Not now and not when she is older.

Summary: Really Helpful
Review: I read this book when I was younger and really like it. It has a great approach on the concept of maturing. I would recommend this book to anyone who has trouble explaining these things because it was and still is helpful. Any other book is second to this one to me.

Summary: As a mom of 5 daughters...
Review: I wanted something that would help me to explain the real situaion without going into sexuality. (I beleive there is one mention of why we have a period is that if you haven't had intercourse and gotten pregnat then the lining of the uterus will shed). At first I was a little put off by the drawing (cartoony) about tampon use... but then realized, you know, that is what they really are thinking and feeling and wondering about. I know I was way back when. I read the whole thing first then gave it to my oldest daughter at about 10/11 yrs old. She read it and we had some very open communication about things. It was a great way to open the door for conversation. I have loaned it to several other friends with daughters approaching that age. It was very helpful with information about breastbuds, and how it's 'normal' to not develop at the exact same rate and size... (I wouldn't have thought about telling her that!), and gave good practicle information about what to do if you start in public and having nothing with you, or various other situaions. The author and her neice did an excellent job of giving good practical information that girls really do need to know, and are probably wondering about. Make sure your daughter is at the stage where she can handle the information... I am not sure when to give it to my next (less mature) almost 10 yr old daughter... one day she'll need and be ready for the same information. A very good book! We also bought 'Period. A girls guide' it was a little more basic, but also a good first book.

Summary: Greatest book
Review: I was really surprized when I saw this book was sititing on my bed, the day my other books had arrived, I was only about 10 then, and I was starting to get curious about some girl "things". So I sat down to check out this book. I found out more than I needed for the time being, and the stuff included in this book have been usefull to me since then. I advice all girls to read this book.

Summary: This book was very informative and worth the buy.
Review: I wish I had this book before I started. I was the laughing stock of the school. But now I know, only because of this book. I think there ought to be be a lot more of this stuff out there. Some kids don't have parents that will freely get them fine materials such as these. Trust me, its life or death to know what a maxipad is before a girl starts. I wish I had.

Summary: I reccomend the book to young ladies who are shy.(ages 8-?)
Review: It is an educational book for young children who are growing up with a lot of hard to ask your parents questions and I reccomend it to girls about 7 years or older.
