Summary: If you like liver, this cookbook is for you
Review: ... GROSS!
This cookbook has a disturbing number of liver recipes.

I bought this cookbook because my son will only eat NEAT, TIDY finger food. He doesn't want sauces or cassaroles, or drippy things. This cookbook was very disappointing because despite its title, it is NOT a cookbook of finger foods. Sure, there are some finger foods in here, but there are more cassaroles and drippy things that my son simply won't touch.

The recipes are questionable as well. I am a good cook, and I can usually tell what a dish will taste like by reading the recipe. Not one of these recipes has appealed to me.

YUK!

Summary: A must for first-time parents
Review: As a first time mom, I quickly ran out of ideas of what to feed my thirteen-month-old. This book has saved my life! Recipes include old standbys such as meatloaf (with tons of interesting variations) and more surprising recipes such as broccoli quiche and spinach pie. In the last three days, I've made eight recipes, and my previously finicky toddler has gobbled them up!

True, for adult palates, some recipes lack salt, but are quite flavorful otherwise.

A must!

Summary: Tasteless
Review: I am raising my child (18 months) as a vegan and was looking forward to tasty recipes without refined flour, sugar, salt, etc. This is not the book for anything "tasty." I was disappointed that most of the vegetarian recipes had milk and cheese. I made the Sunny Squares recipe. It was so bland, I had to throw it all away. And who in their right mind would suggest a recipe with turmeric in it for a toddler? Do you know how much that yellow spice stains clothing, carpets, etc? I do not recommend this book.

Summary: Healthy, easy to make recipes...a must have for busy parents
Review: I am really surprised by some of the 1 star ratings. I have recommended this cookbook to almost everyone I know. I think most of the recipes are quite easy...and the fact you can freeze them in single serving portions is a lifesaver. Sure, there are a few that are a little more complicated, but I either skip them or save until I have more time. The recipes are a little bland, but so far my 1 year old has been used to baby food in jars which is as bland as it comes.

My son has rejected a couple of dishes...but what child loves everything you serve him/her??

I highly recommend this book if you want to serve your kids healthy foods. Believe me, I'm a junk-food junkie, but I'm trying very hard to start my child out right. Of course he's going to eat sugar and white flour and processed foods. But I can at least control some of what he eats and hopefully get him on the right path!!

Summary: Looks great, but not until my daughter turns 1
Review: I bought this book because at 8 months, my daughter rejected all baby food and only wants to feed herself, and I was having a very difficult time getting her to eat any protein at all.

The recipes look amazing, but almost all of them include milk and/or eggs to hold the ingredients together. You can substitute formula or breast milk for the milk (which she does point out in the book), but I was told by my doctor to wait to give her egg yolks at 10 months, and absolutely no egg whites until 1 year.

I did cook the tuna & spinach patty cakes (using formula), which she loved! It was amazing to see her happily eat protein and vegetable in one meal. But fish is supposed to be given only once a week at this age... I can see this book will probably get lots of use when she turns 1.

Summary: great help with toddler eating for a good price
Review: I found this cookbook to be very helpful in coming up with nutritional and yummy meals to entice my extremely choosy 2 1/2 year old. Not every dish won him over and not every dish was something I wanted to make for him (fish recipes are challenging enough for me to try), but overall, there are some great choices in here. For example, the Fruit and Cheese Cakes (basically, cheddar and apple pancakes) are truly delicious; the Peas and Carrots Balls incorporate an egg into the mix without your little one spotting it (for that matter, the carrots and peas are rather hidden too); the French Toast Sandwich went down with only a little coaxing. Jenest offers great advice on what to think about when cooking for your child, and she also gives tips on choosing store-bought foods when you don't have time to cook.

And it's a great price.

Please note that your child should be chewing well for most of these dishes.

Summary: Beware of Bland!
Review: I got this book based on the other reviews. My toddler is not a picky eater, but several recipes I've made from this book hit the floor immediately, and it's because they are so bland. My baby likes food that tastes good, and this ain't it! I have had to spice up every recipe with onions, spices, etc., before he'll even touch it. I have to drench "makenzie's meatloaf" with ketchup or it's immediately rejected. Beware! Unless you have a picky eater on your hands, you'll be going through a lot of trouble to make food that your baby won't eat!

Summary: "Yucky" food made yummy
Review: I had to make a special trip to the grocery store to get the items needed...spinnach, brussel sprouts, tofu and I even picked up some fish, even though I "hate" all of the above. It all turned out yummy enough for mom, dad, and older brother (older sister, is prejudiced against tofu).

Summary: Fast and nutritious...and my child will actually eat it!
Review: I highly recommend this book. My 1 yr. old refused to eat vegetables unless I pureed them and spooned them in - this book changed that. He will now pick up veggies himself and is eating a lot more. The recipes are fast, nutritious and can be frozen, so it is easy to make a batch and then freeze the leftovers for a day when you have less time.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: A waste of time and money
Review: I just received this book and had to write. For the truly picky preschooler these recipes won't cut it. Also, I was disappointed in the quality of the book - newsprint paper, etc.
