Rating: Summary: Highly valuable-must read Review: At last, a guidebook for giving our children an advantage and a step up on the learning curve. Most useful is its guidance in avoiding the pitfalls of unnecessary and expensive programs. This is a worthwhile (and inexpensive) purchase which will benefit children in years to come. Clearly, the authors background as professors and parents has really helped prepare this book.
Rating: Summary: GIVE THIS TO EVERYONE WITH CHILDREN Review: I bought this book for myself and now I give it as a gift whenever a new baby is born, or when I go to a baby shower or when I go to a young child's birthday party. This book provides the reader with practical information that is eminently useable. The authors are renowned in their field and one can see why. Each chapter focuses on a different aspect in a child's life and gives us a treasure trove of ideas that help our children learn to read and write. I have read many books like this and this has provided mw with the most comprehensive and easy to read information. It is helpful, practical and an easy read. Get this--it will help you and the children you interact with. It is a relatively inexpensive book which is worth its weight in gold.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Resource Review: I just got a copy of this book and all I can say is WOW!. I have two children and wish I had this for my first. This book really helps put reading in perspective. No Hooked on Phonics for me--this book is all I need. This book does for reading what Dr. Spock and Dr. Brazelton did for child rearing. Easy to read, practical and complete. I can't wait to see the companion website and the second book which is for parents of older children. I highly recommned Born to Learn for everyone who deals with young children--even teachers could learn from this.
