By reading Mother Tongue I believe it did this purpose to its author. Peter Hargitai was able to convert all his pain and mixed emotions into art which is one way of seeing the beauty in life even if it was hurtful to him then and even now. In most of his poems he discusses problems dealing with his mother which can also reflect his father. For example in the poem titled "Seeds" Hargitai talks about how his mother would have preferred having another child other than him. This gives the sense that he was not loved by his mother the way his other siblings were. Yet through writing Hargitai is able to let all his feelings, compressed inside him through out the years, free.
The author's life parallels his book of poems. He was filled with resentment at first, but was able to grow and mature through the writing of these poems by forgiving. He describes that it was not as easy as writing one poem. This allows the reader to understand that the art of writing through out time, not only one poem but a couple, can be therapeutic, allowing all the inner emotions, conflict, and the pain to express themselves through the pen. This book can serve as an example to many of us who feel hurt inside and need to express ourselves.

This one truly stands out. The feelings and words of each and every poem reaches your heart. A son struggling for his mother's love. Pain, change, love, all in one. This one truly knocked me off my feet. It makes you feel what this little boy felt. Denial, hurt, but there's that sense of forgiveness that truly stands out. Even though he felt hurt, he loved. And this, to me, is something to truly admire. I recommend this book to the fullest.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Review of Mother Tongue Review: Although the poems in Mother Tongue are hard to understand, it is interesting to know that they depict someone's entire life. Many of the phrases used in the poems have double meanings which make the readers analyze them in different ways. Theses poems are also well detailed and placed in chronological order as if they were a story. Although there are many negative thoughts and feelings, this book of poems is a way for the author to heal himself and give himself closure in his wretched life.

Basically he wrote about his pain as growing up with a mother but really without one. A mother is a person you look up too and he couldn't because of the type of person she was. This book is very sad and just makes you want to cry. This book of poems was very well written and is for anyone with a poetic heart.

Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Mother Tongue: A Broken Hungarian Love Song Review: Mother Tongue is a uniquely and peculiar book of poems, not your typical book of rhyming poems that is easy to understand. No this book you have to put a sufficient amount of thinking to understand it. You might even catch yourself reading some poems over and over again to fully understand them and to get the correct meaning behind the words of the poems. Peter Hargitai is an emotional, intense writer who is able to put all his feelings on paper with many details. Some might say in able to write with such vicious emotions and to be able to be so depictive you must have a magnificent gift. It seems as if the author challenges every reader to try to decipher his intellectual work; it's a real obstacle.
