Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A MUST READ FOR PROFESSIONAL PSYCHOLOGISTS OR CLINICIANS! Review: An excellent book. The studies gave great detail and insight into the problems that we face as clinicians dealing with child maltreatment.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Maltreatment in early childhood Review: This book was also published as a special issue in the Journal of Aggression, Maltreatment and Trauma (1999:2(2)) edited by Kathleen Faller, a professor of social work at the University of Michigan and Robin VanderLaan, a social worker affiliated with the San Diego Children's Hospital Center for Child Protection. The book is devided into sections on "Interviewing techniques", "Forensic issues" and "Intervention in child maltreatment cases" with much relevant information on the clinical work with abused children, but as the main editor notes that today in United States children may be protected from maltreatment, but other fundamental rights and needs are not yet in place (poverty, lack of health care, inadequate education). A book recommended for professionals working in the field of child abuse and neglect. Professor Joav Merrick, MD, DMSc Medical Director, Division for Mental Retardation, Box 1260, IL-91012 Jerusalem, Israel. E-mail: jmerrick@aquanet.co.il
