Rating: Summary: For Grandparents Too Review: As a grandmother of a just two year old, I was delighted to have a book available to me to help me spend the precious time I have with my granddaughter in creative and constructive ways. This author has written a book which is both an inspiration to read cover to cover and one to keep on the shelf as a welcome reference from now well into the early school years. He not only suggests ways to make everyday activities quality teaching times but has arranged the chapters into educational areas making it easy to go back for specific examples. He highlights many excellent books for children. Now I know where my gift list resides.
Rating: Summary: Have More Fun, Save Money, Bond Better! Review: Author shows us how we can have more fun with our children, do it inexpensively, and build better relationships as a result of good parenting habits. Lots of resources and great ideas you can read in one night. Not only does the author tell you "How" to teach your children easier, but also "Why" kids do the things they do so it all makes sense. If every parent read this book, they would see that they don't need to go broke "buying" their children unnecessary toys, but that just spending valuable, quality time with them is the best gift of all. Great work!

Rating: Summary: This book is a romp! Review: i wish i had had this book when my kids were younger! it took me years to figure out what my kids weren't getting, so i could go out and get it. jay speaks from decades of classroom experience, simply, without ever talking down. the graphics and sidebars engage and grab; the whole book on such a dense and tense subject is a romp. i loved this book and am buying it for friends with young children; and keeping a copy back for myself for the grandchildren! barbara waugh, ph.d., manager, hp

Rating: Summary: Helpful, Specific Advice Review: Mr. Davidson provides very helpful, specific advice in this book. I especially like his frequent recommendations for other books appropriate for first graders and his "projects" for kids to help them grasp first grade concepts. Just reading the shaded boxes gave me lots of good ideas. Reading the whole book convinces me that the author is a good teacher and cares about kids. I only wish he had provided an e-mail address so I could write to him and thank him for writing this book.
Rating: Summary: For Grandparents Too Review: This book is just loaded with good content for parents who have children of ALL ages. Yes, it certainly covers the basic teachings of first graders, but more so than that! It shows opportunities for parents to teach in everyday circumstances as an adjunct to classroom learning."Teach Your Children Well" covers how to communicate to our children in ways that convey respect, acceptance, and understanding. There are delightful tips and nuggets thru out for things to do, places to see, & references to other helpful books. I think if all parents read and used this book as the manual of childrearing, our hard working teachers' job would be easier, the children more receptive to learning, and our homes a little less chaotic. I highly recommend this book. Buy it in Kindergarten, but use through high school. It's never too late to teach our children and for us to learn good parenting skills!
