Summary: A book from somebody who has been there.
Review: Mr Wright has done an excellent job in showing the entire scale on which a rebellious child can be found. In his book Loving a Prodigal the topics don't linger too long on any particular type of rebellion whether it be drugs, alcohol, dropping out of school, or opposition to authority in the home. Instead he continually focuses on the relationship between the parent and child and steps that can be taken to maintain it throughout the rebellion. Although I am not there yet, I was glad to see that he gave treatment to the subject of parents with grown children who rebel. Many seem to forget that we are still parents and we still hurt when our child rebels whether they be 13 or 30. The author shows and shares that he too struggled with a rebellious child. He also draws extensively on the reactions, feelings, and experiences of other hurting parents. It made feel that I was not alone. You may not agree with all his conclusions, but I think you will find many of his examples hit almost uncomfortably close to the mark. There are no easy solutions given but you should probably pass up any book on this topic that claims to have any. Outside of a supportive close friend or family member, I think this book will one of best resources to "survive" a rebellious child.
