Summary: An In-depth look into two aspects of service
Review: I found this book to be very informative. It focuses primarily on two aspects of Victorian-age servant life: footmen and the laundry. The section on footmen is particularly useful, because it is very difficult to find any in-depth documentation of footmen's duties, working habits, everyday lives, etc. Ms. Sambrook covers this area very well, using the private diary of a footmen, as well as other expert sources.

Additionally, she goes in-depth into the laundry facilities and procedures used in English country houses during the last century. Once again, its clear that Ms. Sambrook really did her homework when writing this book- she writes with expertise that is hard to find on this fascinating subject. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
