Rating: 5 stars
Summary: An insightful look at the effects of organized youth sports
Review: I wish I had read this book when my children were younger. In fact--I wish my parents had read this book when I was a teen. Griffin cuts through all the "recieved wisdom" about both the good and bad effects of organized sports on the personal, social, and educational lives of children and teens. He gathers, reviews, and explains past and current research in language easily accessible to the layman. He talks of his own personal experiences as a "jock," as a student, and as a teacher--a college professor of education who spends much of his time in elementary and secondary classrooms around the country. Griffin writes easily and informally giving important insights for parents who wonder what will set their children on the best path to success in school and in life.
