Their health is steadily changing, mostly in a negative way, as they age. In the coming years, what will that mean for them? And what will that mean for me?
This marvelous book helped me to answer many of the questions that adult children will face as their parents become aged and require some level of adult care. It also assisted me with understanding that there are lots of resources available to people who need help, both the elderly and the care-givers.
I think everyone should read this book.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A font of information AND emotion Review: I must say that it has been a long time since I enjoyed a book as much as I did this one. In fact, I read it twice! Orphaned at 39 was both highly informative in dealing with elder care issues, as well as being very creatively written. And the marvelous photographs completed a perfect visualization of the characters lives. This author is a remarkable story-teller, and he has a fabulous command of the English language. In addition, his writing provides just the right amount of detail, which enables the reader to never get lost in a complicated story that spans some sixty years. By reading this book, I now have a better understanding of the care needs of the elderly. And, happily, I now have a better understanding of what my role will be in caring for my own parents as they age. Excellent book!

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A wonderful journey through life's ups and downs. Review: I really enjoyed this book. I normally read sports biographies or books on travel. However, my wife gave me Orphaned at 39 after she had finished it, and am I ever glad she did. This book is a true story, and has everything; marvelous friendships, traitors, good times, bad times, and an incredibly devoted son who cares for his dad. This book is a tear-jerker, but I would recommend it to those who love to read about devotion, courage and people doing the "right thing".

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Orphaned at 39 Review: I was truly moved by the story of a young man who came to the need of his elderly father, with little or no regard on the effect it would have on his own life. It is also about the journey of life, from birth to death and all the twists and turns that life throws us. There is some really good information on taking care of your elderly parents, also some good tips for planning ahead. I hope that someday my children will care for me as well as the author cared for his family.. I have and do recommend this for all to read.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A wonderful, and wonderfully written, story. Review: Orphaned at 39 was one of many books I read this summer (2004), but it was by far the most enjoyable read of them all.
The word "devotion" cannot come close to accurately defining the care a son provides for his father through the final months/years of his dad's life.
This story was well worth telling, and well worth reading.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: This title should be offered on Oprah's Book Club Review: This book is a touching memoir of a Baby Boomer's struggles with caring for an ailing parent. The author spends time colorfully describing his parent's lives, his life as a child with his folks, and how they prepared him for life, and what life can deal us all. In this case, becoming a care-provider. The section where the author describes his travails during his time caring for his father is very touching. But what really makes this book so fabulous (and valuable), is how he offers guidance to any reader faced with the same situation based on his experiences. I loved this book, and would recommend it to others.

Review: This book really affected me because I had gone through a similar experience with my parents. At times I became very emotional as I read it, but felt it was worth the tears to know the story of this courageous son. This book was recommended to me, and I strongly recommend it to others.
