Summary: Gave me the strength
Review: I bought this book MINUTES after leaving my house. I read it while at the women's shelter. It gave me the strength I needed to stay out.

I'm an entrepreneur, "strong" woman who never thought she'd find herself in "that" type of situation. Well, I did, and this book helped me tremendously.

Summary: This Book Almost Destroyed My Family
Review: If you are truly a physically and / or emotionally abused woman, this book probably will give you some sound advice. Unfortunately, this book gives no advice as to how it should be used comprehensively. Not all men suspected of abuse are abusive. The conspicuous absents of this fact allows this book to be abused as a man-hater's handbook.

Marginally competent mental health professionals and domestic violence advocacy groups use this book to condemn any man that in the slightest way could be construed as abusive. Using this book's examples of men doing some of the most heinous things to the women in their lives, therapists and advocates extrapolate their patient's situations to match those given in the book. This is done without ever meeting the man involved. They go strictly on the description of the woman who is often in a break-up situation and certainly not unbiased.

Taking a "presumed guilty until proven guilty" approach, this book has given these marginal professionals and advocates the tools they need to stretch the truth and manipulate a given situation to look like the "patterns" of behavior in the book and to "break cycles" that just don't exist.

Basically, the description above is what happened to me. This book was instrumental in almost destroying my family. I say almost because I have gone way out of my way to get competent therapy for my ENTIRE family. Where ALL members are evaluated, not just talked about.

This book is on a line between solid advice for the truly abused and sensationalized propaganda for those that are not. A very powerful while potentially divisive book.
