Rating: Summary: THE EVERYDAY COMPANION FOR YOU & YOUR BABY Review: For generations women have had the help and guidance of physicians, nurses, and family members with the questions and concerns that surround pregnancy, childbirth, and infant care. Today, one or more of these supporting elements may be missing or not fully available. When a woman seeks clear, responsible information on the subject she is often faced with a barrage of materials that aim to be helpful but often present a confusing picture.Observing this all-too-common situation, Jerri Colonero has drawn upon her 22 years as an obstetrical nurse to create a single resource that answers everyday questions and offers clear, concise descriptions of what is going on medically. Her aim is to provide an experienced voice that a woman can turn to for help in understanding her own body, the processes of pregnancy and birth, and the responsibilities of infant care. The goal of this book is to help you be better prepared, relaxed, and confident every step of the way. With it you can: · become an educated consumer of obstetrical and newborn care · know what to expect in each stage of labor · become a better advocate for your labor and delivery experience · learn how to deal with the normal discomforts of pregnancy, labor, and your recovery · find out how and when to report important symptoms in both you and your baby · know what to do if an emergency arises · learn about newborn feeding, care, and safety issues
Rating: Summary: Thorough answers for concerned parents to be. Review: I purchased this book because it has so much information about Pregnancy, Birth, and beyond. It encompasses the entire process of becoming a new parent which I am most concerned about. It is a terrific medical reference guide written in a friendly, easy to understand format with descriptive diagrams. The chapters and index make for quick and easy subject locating. I know I will refer to it again and again once the baby arrives. Thank you to Jerri Colonero for writting this complete guide which every expectant mother (and father) should have.
Rating: Summary: Very helpful book. Review: I, too, was very fortunate in having Jerri as my nurse when I had my son 11 years ago. She was the reason I didn't give up on nursing my son. I told her this when I saw her in a restaurant one day--remember Jerri! I'm so glad you got to write your book. You did a fantastic job. This woman knows her stuff!
Rating: Summary: Best book on pregnancy, childbirth and babycare out there Review: If you buy one book when you get pregnant, this should be the one. It's by far the best book on pregnancy, childbirth and babycare I've found (and I've read lots of them). I have been able to find intelligent, precise, up-to-date answers to all my questions. When my baby was choking on mucus, this book gave me a more helpful and thorough answer than my own pediatrician. Most books on the subject handle either pregnancy OR babycare--this handles pregnancy, delivery, recovery and caring for a newborn, including a great section on breastfeeding. So you only need to buy one book, instead of two or three. I wish this book had been around when I had my first baby!
Rating: Summary: THE comprehensive book on pregnancy, birth, and newborn care Review: Jeri Colonero has done a suberb job of detailing the things new moms need to know in this well organized and easy to reference book. This book goes where many others stop, it addresses the concerns of new parents in those critical early days of the birth experience for both mom and baby. What to Expect When Your Expecting has enjoyed a long tenure as one of the most popular reference books on pregnancy and birth, I predict With You and Your Baby All the Way will replace it on the bookshelves of expectant couples.
Rating: Summary: The best book for nursing yet!!! Review: My wife had the benefit of having Geri Colonero as her nurse when our daughter Sophia was born. Mom and Sophia were having a little trouble coordinating their nursing, and we were concenred that she would have to be bottle fed after only two or three days. But Geri came along and really got thigns rolling, allowing Sophia and Mom to work together and nursing great in no time! Geri's book is well-written, bursting with information and helpful diagrams. It's the next best thing to having her there as your nurse.
Rating: Summary: Overall, a lot of good information...but maybe too much. Review: Overall, a lot of good information...but maybe too much. The "what to expect..." books are a little easier to find answers...but nice job.
Rating: Summary: Family-centered and very accessible Review: The book is written in an easy to understand, personable style. It is as if "Nurse Colonero" is sitting in the room with you. In many contemporary medical environments, the emphasis is on expeditious teaching interactions. The immediate post-partum period is often a time of emotional and physical exhaustion, and so a family's ability to learn new information may be limited. This book will not only give you a comprehensive outline of important concepts, it should also provide the patient and family with a fundamental framework of knowledge which will empower you to be a more savvy "medical consumer." You can think about issues and concerns and present them to your health care providers for discussion. Jerri Colonero's book should be a template for patient education and empowerment. Managed care is here to stay, and the more educated families are about their health care needs and their access to potential information and services, the better the outcomes will be for everyone: patients, families, providers, and payors.
