Rating: Summary: alcohol abuse Review: My wife and I feel this book should be read by any woman who is engaged to someone who drinks excessively, who is married to someone who drinks to much, or is being abused by her spouse. The book is a real eye opener as to just what can happen if you think you can someone after you marry them. You will not be able to put this book down once you start reading it. You will be horrified at the things that this family went through. My wife and I read this book in two days. If you think things are tough in your marriage or your family, read this book and then start counting your blessings
Rating: Summary: A True Tale Well Told Review: The Emelia I know is wholly different from the little girl telling the story of her young life. You see, I am an associate of hers in the workplace & only know her as an adult today.I never realized the power of words as they are the thoughts of a child. Emelia Dion Hardy is in a class by herself when it comes to touching the emotions of the reader. The story itself is gripping, but the way it is told is unique. Anyone, even those with only an 8th grade education, should be able to easily understand this book as the words are plain & simple. No dictionary need stand by. As more readers pass the word about "Why Daddy,Why?", there will be a snowballing effect where more printings will be needed. Great book, Emelia!
Rating: Summary: A true story, heartrending but full of love and hope Review: This book about extreme cruelty by a daddy for his children and his loving wife is written simply and from the heart, much of it from the point of view of the little girl Emelia who suffered unimaginable torture at the hands of her abusive, alcoholic father. "I wrote this book simply, like a little girl but with the heart of a woman," the author says. "You will find no words that you can't pronounce or understand. What you will find is the open heart of a little girl, then of the woman she became." The author goes on to give a vivid and heartfelt account of the abuse the same little girl suffered at the hands of nuns...The picture she paints is made all the more poignant by ...[other terrible events] The book shows how the shadow of a father's cruelty can be cast over the whole life of a child--a child who, in this instance, never failed to turn the other cheek, or return love for cruelty and abuse, who manifested, in the end, the overriding power and strength of Christ who advocated love above all things. The book is a protest against domestic violence and institutionalised cruelty, and will hopefully stand as a beacon and warning against the violations suffered by so many Emelias whose heartfelt cries go unheard behind the closed or locked doors of our apparently respectable western civilization. This book, by an angel of the Lord, will make you cry but fill you with hope and the love of God.
Rating: Summary: Can't Put it Down Review: This book has touched me in a way that no other book could. The words written, though scary to know that they are real events, are simply great. This book touches on so many real subjects, because all of it's events are real. it shows that life is not all fairy tales, and is seldom like you want it to be. "Why, Daddy, Why?" is a great book that i reccomend to all who get the chance to read it. This coming from someone who, in their 18 years of life, has hated to read. Turning me from a non-reader to an avid one.
Rating: Summary: Page turner Review: This book is total page turner. I couldn't put it down. I was totally drawn into the book as if I were experiencing the events taking place. It took me two days to finish it but it was worth it. At many points in the book I had to stop and run to the bathroom for the tissues. I will continue to read it over and over again. This is something I will never get tired of. It's so unreal how a family or anyone could go through so much abuse. I recommend this book to anyone to read. I had two of my friends read this book and they were awed by this powerful, tear-jerking story. This is an awesome book.
Rating: Summary: Even Kids understand this book Review: This book is very inspiring. It's amazing how just one family can go through so much and be able to move on. It's just one obstacle after another, tumbling into more and more bad things. There are some good things about this book, such as, having children who will love you forever, caring mothers, encouraging brothers, and an Elder who you can bake cookies with. This book will take you on the emotional ride of your life, sending you to fury, happiness, joy, fear, and bring you to tears. I felt like I was a background person, always watching, always listening to see what would happen. I felt proud and strong, when Irene stood up to her abusive husband, I felt great joy when Emelia, Cecile, and Jerry received great presents from Mr. Frank, I felt fury when the father abused the children, or broke Emelia's beloved doll furniture. I felt joy when Emelia's mother, Irene, escaped the hands of the abusive father, I felt fear when the father nearly killed Irene, and I cried when Jerry passed away. This book draws you into the world of a child who is pleading for help from God to a grown woman who will protect her children no matter what. After you read the first sentence, you can't stop. I should know, I read from 7:00 PM to 10:00 AM, and I didn't set the book down once. You really need to read this book.

Rating: Summary: why Daddy why Review: This book made me feel as if I was living it and seeing it at the same time. I felt the children's pain and how scared they must have been all the time. I couldn't put it down. This book has made me realise how great my own childhood was and that this type of abuse goes on right here in New Hampshire where I live. I could feel this book. After I had read the book I still think about it. It was written so that you were part of it.
