Summary: FIVE STAR BOOK NOW ONLY AVAILABLE IN MEDIOCRE TRANSLATION
Review: This new Richard Howard translation is a travesty when compared with the translation by Katherine Woods that publisher Harcourt, Inc. has replaced. Howard has reduced the text to its lowest common denominator which the publisher calls "streamlined" and "new and improved". I call it impoverished and completely devoid of charm. I can't imagine what the publishers were thinking when they chose to replace the classic translation which beguiled us all during its 57 years in print and am reminded of Coca Cola's "New Coke" fiasco...an error which was quickly remedied. The ONLY positive comment I can make is that the color illustrations in the paperback edition are an improvement on the black & white illustrations of its paperback predecessor.
The only good news is that you can still obtain used copies of the Woods translation at Amazon or your local used book shop. Look for the white cover and a publication date prior to the year 2000.

Summary: A great book for kids and adults
Review: I have read and reread this book for several years, and I like it better each time. Each time, I discover new insights, bits of wisdom and nuggets of humor. Take it at whatever level you wish...a children's fable or a deep piece of philosophy. You can't go wrong. It makes a great gift, for those who have never read it. They will thank you for introducing them to it.

Summary: THE BEST AND MOST THOUGHT PROVOKING BOOK EVER!!!
Review: I understand now why this book is a classic!! This fable, along with Jay Singh's THE Butterfly and Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist, is a must for anyone teetering on the tightrope of authenticity. It will give you the push you need to dive into yourself and be who you came here to be! But forget under a whole pile of "could haves" and "Should haves". If you or anyone you know needs a little push this is definitely the book to do it!

Summary: Sweet. Charming. Heartwarming.
Review: There is a reason some books are classics and The Little Prince is a great example of such a book. It's told in a manner that make you feel as if you're reading a diary. The illustrations meld perfectly with the story. The story itself is imaginative and can be read on many different levels. There is something here for all readers. And that to me the measure of a true classic. A book that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and backgrounds.

This small unasumming book hides a wealth of discovery.

Summary: Unsatisfying
Review: This could quite possibly be the least satisfying book that I have ever read... The extended metaphors are too many and too bothersome to analyze as one is reading this short book. I [don't like] having to figure out exactly what the author is saying as I'm reading. It takes away from the flow of the book.

Summary: Interesting Discoveries
Review: An 80 page book, that when you read for the first time you would think it is only a kids book. I have read this book at least 10 times now, and every time it teaches you something new about the little prince travels, his experience with the different planets, and people he meets.

The little prince adventues leave the bigest influence on the adults, and the way they look at life. He shows how people have changed so much, and how they have lost the value in seeing the beauty in the small things. Everything seems the same to them, and their actions demostrate that.

The little prince left his planet, to understand the people more, and to find the best rose he can ever find, after all the travelling he did, and the questions he asked, he discovered that being content and making the best of what he had is the right way to approach life, he just wished everybody saw it the same way.

If you never read any other book in your life, make sure you read this...

Summary: I could not be more disappointed...
Review: I bought this book, my favorite book of all time when translated from the original, thinking that it was going to be consistent with that translation from Katherine Woods. Her verbiage was distinct and beautiful and romantic and filled with magic. She had a gift, a power over language, a gift that tore into you and made you cry. I bought this copy, translated by Richard Howard, to mail to my fiance so that he could understand a bit better, me... This translation is completely the opposite of what I want him to see in me. It contains none of the beauty from the original translation. He has changed the words, the phrases, as if he was simply looking at a Thesaurus, to find similarities, and take the credit for "translating". I have thrown this in the trash, and am grateful that I looked at it first before impressing it upon my fiance. I could not be more disappointed, and I have learned a lesson in carefully researching the choices / the authors / the translators presented on Amazon.

Summary: The Little Prince
Review: This story is enchanting. It catches your mind and goes on a long journey like the little prince did. I reccomend it for all ages. On a scale of 1-10, I would rate it 10.

Summary: One of so few...
Review: This book was known by every child in my country. I was delighted to discover that some people in the US know about it too -- I wish there were much more of them, and this is why I came searching for it in order to give a few copies to the people I care about. I briefly read the reviews (I don't need a review for myself, I feel this book) and many were talking about either entertainment or fiction. I'd like to make a statement that this book is none of the two, but something that just can't be classified, like a true masterpiece can't. This book is something that stands way out from any other children's products that I've seen and that money can buy.

Summary: for my son
Review: I bought this book for my son when he was about 10 years old. If i remember right he and i worked on writing a book review of this book for school and the book broadened his mind. I think I still have this book.
