Rating: Summary: Not too simple ...that's a good thing! Review: This is, and with this I agree with one of your other reviewers, a book that should be READ TO kids. Starting probably at around 7 or 8. My kids love it (we're not quite finished.) I have had this book read to me in DUTCH about 30 years ago. Loved it then. Glad that it's still going strong.
Rating: Summary: So precious the heavens must have created him Review: Unlike many of the reviewers I am older, almost as old as the Prince himself. I have read probably thousands of books in my lifetime, and yet only three books remain by my bedside to be read over and over again-The Bible, e.e.cummings and The Little Prince. The Little Prince is both the loveliest and saddest book I have ever read. Some may scoff, but we who are touched by the wisdom of an innocent child are the lucky ones. For no matter what prevails, we hear the laughter in the stars.
Rating: Summary: A strong foundation. Review: To travel in this world would be so hard without a strong foundation of faith. Having this book is like being a soldier in his best armour suit. I pity those who did not understand the book's deep thoughts and are still clinging to their material inclinations. I learned so much with the Little Prince and I am still growing because of it.
Rating: Summary: A book for the ages Review: On the surface, this book, The Little Prince, may simply be thought of as just another children's book. However, if one allows himself or herself to, it is a book that trancends the age of the reader. It is a book for everyone, except for those who will not allow themselves to be "tamed". As one who first read it as a sophomore in high school in my French class, and now, twelve years later, I try to read it at least once a month, while discovering something new every time I do. On a side note, there is a Little Prince (Le Petit Prince) watch available be warned, however, that there are two thousand of these made worldwide (in two styles...with a red band and a blue one). Just thought I would pass that on to any and all Little Prince fans...and remember the 'very simple secret' told to the Little Prince by the fox... 'It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; What is essential is invisible to the eye'.
Rating: Summary: A very touching, funny, yet sad book. Review: A young boy who "grown-ups" don't seem to understand, one day later in his life is faced with a test of courage and friendship. He is now grown up and meets a young boy from a planet of his own who is looking for a little excitement. A fun, moving family book.
Rating: Summary: Fragile, powerful, but not ephemeral Review: Pedants may find the book scientifically ridiculous; serious readers will find it erudite. Cynics may find its precepts hackneyed; fans will find them transcendental and relevant. By interweaving the ludicrous with the sagacious, the old-fashioned with the ethereal, this book accentuates life's ironies and irrationality in a fresh, poignant way. The Little Prince may also have played a very shabby trick on its critics. He has, after all, suggested that we live among grown-ups and people who do not see with the heart, and that `we' should show great forbearance towards them. This, is his distinction.
The Little Prince nourishes the mind; refreshes the soul; and, yet, wrings and wrenches the heart. It has been my favourite since I first read it in 1989; I believe it will remain so -- for life.
Rating: Summary: It's a book - well written Review: A very well written book with insight to morals in a demoralized world. I enjoyed the choice of words used by Antoine, however, do not feel that this is a book for a child to read, but to be read to. If you find you enjoy this book then check out the Holy Bible...you'll find some of the same philosophies regarding love for an individual and much more.
Rating: Summary: One of the best Review: My English teacher read this to us in 8th grade, after that I went out and bought it and have read it many times since. I love it. The innocent little prince who just wants what any little kid would want to me shows just how beautiful childhood really is. The magic of the prince's travles to each planet and the simple lessons he learns there are lessons we know but at all times must be reminded of. It is said in a straightforward way that any two people will find easy enough to read and enough in the words to learn from and love. It is a GREAT book!
Rating: Summary: It's like coming home to one's heart Review: A very insightful story. The Little Prince has "tamed" me. His story has helped me find my way back to the very core of myself and has taught me that the best way to savor life is to live with the heart and look out for those baobabs!!!
Rating: Summary: I don't see what the big deal is about this book. Review: Read the book last night after reading the reviews here. You might come away with the reinforcement of one or two basic ideas that most people know already and ponder once in a while, althought the reading of the book itself is not enjoyable enough worth getting to the end.
