Rating: Summary: Love is Most Important Review: I read this book whenever I see myself drifting away from the belief that loving is the only way to bring deep meaning and fulfillment to our lives. The Little Prince helps me see that love is worth the risk even if loss is inevitable. What is most important is to put aside our narcissism, lust for power, and money and focus on loving. Loving is truely a "matter of consequence".
Rating: Summary: How stupid look like _SOME_ reader ????? Review: Hi,Im born in Europe, where is born St-Exupéry. I read "The little Prince" when I was 7 yo, and this stories follow me all my life. I never read it again, but I listed lot of time the stories, at office, at home or anywhere. Sometime, I do not listen this storie during 2 or five year, but each time I listed her, I have always something. I read in some comment that some poeple see just a stories between a fox and a child. Other ask them how can the little prince be in Sahara, and other see a suicide...I can't figure me so stupid interpretation of the petit prince. And the life of St-Exupéry, with all other great pilot should be also reading. St-Exupéry is really a GREAT men, that have give is point of view with the simplest way as possible, and with the more in deepth subject. Sorry for my bad english.
Rating: Summary: Read it with an open mind (heart). Review: One who reads this and comes away with nothing should do anything but publicize it. You are admitting a lot about yourself and the age we live in.
Rating: Summary: IT'S EASY TO READ, BUT NOT TOO EASY TO UNDERSTAND Review: One of the most known books all over the world, even one of the most readen, with more than one hundred traslations... but, does it mean everybody get the point? People used to think it's just a very simple book, a tale for children... Never take things at their face value! In fact it's easy to read, but not too easy to understand. What is the real message? Saint-Ex gave us the solution to all the problems with his `little' masterpiece: "what is essential is invisible to the eye". Wherever you are, thank you for the best advice I've ever heared.
Rating: Summary: TLP-it is such a secret place :0) Review: The Little Prince is by far the most sensitive, endearing, thought provoking, simple but complex book that I have ever had the pleasure to read. I think it is most certainly a book for adults. It is my favorite gift to give my friends. I know I know, what a terrible thing to say considering the whole subject matter of the book. But, ever teeny tiny phrase in this book needs to be loved, cherished, and most importantly taken to heart. This book says just about everything that needs to be said about life. What a man Antoine De-Saint Exupery must have been :0)
Rating: Summary: The best graduation gift I ever received Review: The Little Prince was given to me upon graduation from high school over twenty years ago. I recently reread it and wept like a child. The life lessons the Little Prince taught were priceless and timeless. As an educator and a parent, I value this wonderful book more today, than the day I received it. My students graduated last night and I was proud to present each of them with their own copy of The Little Prince. I know that this gift will enrich their lives each time they read it.
Rating: Summary: EVERYTHING REPRESENTS SOMETHING ELSE Review: I read the Little Prince when I was a child, and knew that it meant something but wasn't really sure what. For years the book sat on my shelf, always mystifying me. Just yesterday a friend of mine told me she just finished it. We had this amazing conversation and I realized (with her help) that everything really is a metaphor for something else (people who have read the book might understand when I explain). For example, the rose represents a child because the LP (little Prince) loved it and took care of it. When he found the rosebushes he realized that his flower was not special. But it was unique in the way that he had raised it and so it was different from all the other flowers. The sunset = happiness. The LP searched for the sunset wherever he went like a person searching for happiness.
The boabobs = bad child. They needed to be tended to while they were little like a naughty child, so that they did not grow up and destroy the planet.
The snake = death. He befriends the LP but tells him in some metaphorical way that he is inevitable. Also, it explains itself at the end when the snake kills him.
The stars = faith, religion, God. There is a passage in the book that says, the stars are many things to many people. To the wanderers they are a guide, to the scholars they are a problem to solve, to the businessmen they are wealth. The wanderers are like lost souls looking for God, the scholars are theologans looking for proof if God exists, the businessmen are like evangelists who look to God for profit. Also, the king tried to rule the stars but could not because they belonged to everyone. No one can rule God, He belongs to everyone.
Lamplighter = devotion. He could have gone to sleep, but insisted on carrying out his duties.
The well = faith. The LP and "I" searched for the well in the desert and insisted on it being there, even though they didn't know for sure. This is like a person believing in God even though they've never seen Him.
The Turkish Astronomer = descrimination. No on!e listened to his ideas until he changed how he dressed. This represents how people judge other people by appearance. Little Prince Leaving Flower = Child Growing Up. She had her thorns for defense but it was still a transition into life on her own, like a child going into adulthood.
King's Robes Covering the Planet = People's possessions cluttering their lives. There was no room for anything else because his robe was in the way.
Geographer = law, justice. He was like a judge, carrying out the orders after they were proven. He had his explorers report to him with their findings (like attorneys) and after he had confirmed what happened, he wrote them down. It also represents how he didn't care about the flower unless it was ephemeral--like a judge who doesn't care about anyone unless they have anything to do with his profession. Message of Book = simplify your life. All that The Little Prince had on his planet was a flower and three mountains. He was extraordinarily happy, until he came to the other planets. Everyone else was busy with something, but his simple life made him happy. It was the sunset at the end of the day (or any time of the day) that made his life worth living. All of the other people on the other planets were preoccupied with alcohol, figures, reigning over everyone else, etc, all "matters of consequence," and they weren't happy. The little Prince was happy. Whew!
Rating: Summary: One of the best books i have ever read Review: This book is wonderful. It's insights on life and humanity really touch your soul and change your life. Quotes like "Where are all the men? It's very lonely in the desert" "It's lonely among men as well"... and "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye". This book really changes your views and ideas on life, and i highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: insightful & heartfelt Review: The little prince has always been one of my most favorite books of all time. Since I first read it in college, I always reccomend it to people I like and admire. The little prince is a story of the little prince; he lived on a little asteriod by himself surrounded by volcanoes, a goat, a tree that can grow really big, and his rose. He then took a trek that would take him all over, seeing old folks along the way. such insights leave us to think where we stand in this world, and in a way, also find ourselves in the process. For some this book would offer a wake up call of sorts. Others will see it as just another story that was written for children. All in all it boils down to the simple fact... "what is essential is invisible to the eye, it is only with the heart that we can see clearly"
Rating: Summary: A gift to treasure Review: This a children's book for grown-ups. It teaches grown-ups how to see with the unclouded vision of a child. I have given each of my children a copy of this book to take with them on the long journey of adulthood so they would never forget how to think as a child. This book makes a delightful gift to young and old. Highly recommended!
