Rating: Summary: A fast, romantic read....(4 1/2 stars) Review: "Family Blessings" was definitely different. The book was lent to me without a dust jacket, so I had no idea what to expect of the story line. I was pleasantly surprised. I felt that the characters were well fleshed out and easy to relate to. I did however have a few quibbles. First of all, I thought that some of the writing was a little syrupy sweet. There was also a bit of an ick factor at work here...for me anyways. I didn't have a problem with Chris and Lee's age difference, but the fact that he had been best friends with her 25 year old son was just a little offputting. I did eventually get over it, but I also was a little bothered by Lee getting involved with a man that her daughter openly had a crush on. All in all, this was a heartwarming read, but I had a few mixed feelings about it.

Rating: Summary: Nearly Perfect.... Review: Although this story was overlong, it was still great. Ms. Spencer is a master at bringing characters to life, making each one completely realistic, and has a way of infiltrating the reader into the imaginary lives of these people in such a way as to make it seem very real. Uncanny talent. I was glad that Lee 'looked' her age, rather than have people say but-you-look-thirty-five. I found it completely believable that Chris could love her. What I didn't find believable was the fact that Chris hadn't dated a girl in 2 years prior to dating Lee! It just wasn't plausible that a single, handsome young man never dated. (In this, Ms. Spencer has trouble sometimes; correctly interpreting what someone would really do in a particular situation.) Chris also seemed to have an endless supply of money. How? One more thing - Lee's father-in-law, Lloyd was simply magnificant!
Rating: Summary: A wonderful book! Review: Family Blessings is a book I have read 4 times. Even though it is not my "favorite" Lavyrle Spencer book, I seem to never grow tired of it. Each time I read it, I am more in love with Christopher. He has such patience with and love for Lee. He allows her the time she needs to realize how much that love means. I would love to have my own real life Christopher. He really is too good to be true. These two people, with grief, age differences, and family opposition, prove that love conquers all.
Rating: Summary: A life-experience in one book! Review: Family Blessings take you on a trip through a range of human emotions: grief, pain, loss, love and happiness, to name a few. This book comes bursting out of the chute on the second page and from then on you are on a bronco-busting ride through life. When Lee Reston finds love from an unlikely source she doubts herself and whether the feelings are genuine. Explore how it feels to trust your heart and not the protocols of society.
Rating: Summary: Family Blessing, an excellent book Review: I first read Family Blessings 2 years ago, and am reading it again for the 10th time, it is really the best Lavyrle Spencer book, although I love Hummingbird and Gamble and all of her books, this story really hits your emotions, the fact that the hero & heroine(Lee & Christopher) have a huge age difference didn't bother me, the story was very well written, it's about 2 people handling grief, how society will look upon you because of the age difference, and how they overcame it to finally be together. Make sure you have a box of kleneex when you read this, I did. I just wish this book was a little bit more longer, so I could have had some more to read. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: A Story You Want to Read Again & Again Review: I first read Family Blessings a few years ago when it first came out. After just reading a few pages, I had tears rolling down my cheeks. The entire story captivated me. I loved both Lee and Christopher. Since that time, I have probably read this book a dozen times. It's like a good friend--when I'm down and need comforting, I find hope in the story of how 2 people can overcome tremendous grief and withstand incredible pressure to find true happiness. I have passed my copy of Family Blessings around so much and read it so many times myself, that it is literally falling apart. I have read nearly all of Ms. Spencer's books and have enjoyed them all. If only we could convince her to come out of retirement.
Rating: Summary: Truly a Blessing Review: I had ready several LaVyrle Spencer books before reading "Family Blessings" but none touched my heart as much as it did. The story of a widowed mother with three children who loses an adult child and then turns to his best friend for comfort, which turns to love, is an unusual love story. The story is real, the grief is real and the love is very real. Lee isn't a typical 22 year-old heroine whose greatest obstacle in life is getting the man she's determined to marry to say those magic words. Lee is a real woman dealing with grief and kids and life. The love scenes between Chris and Lee are all the more erotic due to the characters' normalcy and reality. The poignant use of Vince Gill's song "When I Call Your Name" still never fails to bring tears to my eyes. The pacing in this story is perfect; you follow Lee and Chris along their path and are as surprised as they when their feelings manifest themselves. You adore those who support them and band together with Lee and Chris against those who oppose their love. It's a book that's unusual, uplifting, heart rending and filled with the one thing equal to love - hope.
Rating: Summary: My Second Lavyrle Spenser Book Review: I have only read two books by Lavyrle Spenser, and those are Small Town Girl and now Family Blessings. While reading this book, I got so wrapped up and wished that I had a romance as pure, new, and fresh as the one unfolding before my eyes. The story is touching and the characters are believable (as were those in small town girl). Lavyrle Spenser has a way of getting into the readers heart and tugging at the right strings. This is a wonderful book.
