Summary: WARNING !!! This book isn't for parents of perfect children.
Review: Hi ! We're the Mommies. We figure if you're a parent in the 90's you need to know that there are millions of people out there just like you! We figure there are only two kinds of kids: those that need a lawyer and those that
become one. Life is not even close to what it was in Erma Bombeck's day. We are faced with the smut of the Spice Girls and the daliances of a classy
president that make your kids ask you questions like..."Does oral sex meaning talking about sex?" Thank you Monica
Lewinsky for bringing up that question!
This book is designed to help the modern mother cope. It contains anecdotes and guidelines that may well keep you off your therapists couch or it will at least leave you saying.."Thank God that isn't my kid."

On Sex: Once a month is good enough!

On Pregnancy: That epidural was better than the sex that got me there!

On Teenagers: Living with teenagers is like watching Jeopardy every night. After a while you start thinking, "Maybe I am stupid."

On Fashion: If you are wearing something that's hurting you, chances are it's hurting someone else.

This book is light and funny, pick it up when you need a little laugh, you can start anywhere in the book. Better yet get one for every mommy you know, she'll love you for it. Not to mention she just might do that extra LOAD of laundry for you!

Summary: An inspiration to women of all ages
Review: I am a 19 year old college student from upstate New York, and I hopefully have a few more years until I have a husband and a family, but I just wanted you to know that I enjoyed The Mother Load from cover to cover. The book caught my eye because I loved your television series and your talk show. It was so funny that I couldn't put it down! I think it's great that the two of you were willing to share personal stories to inspire other women. I just wanted to let you know that it's not only wives and mothers who read your book. I think your book is an inspiration for women of all ages. I'm looking forward to the next one! Thank you very much.

Summary: Two bitter women
Review: My wife picked up this book somewhere. I took a look through it, and was surprised at the bitterness that passes for humor. Such scheming and mental manipulation of family members I have never seen openly joked about in print this way. The co-writers mistakenly assume that most other woman are like them. They need to stop congratulating themselves on their own cleverness and concentrate on the positivity in life--or they should get some help.

Summary: Funny at times, but makes parenthood look depressing...
Review: The authors can be very clever, but most of the jokes seem to come at the expense of the children that they created and raised. Is parenthood really this much of an unpleasant chore, and are women STILL stuck in such stereotypical roles? Not in my circles. If you don't have children, beware, this book could scare you away from parenting.

Summary: Good medicine for overwhelmed moms
Review: These funny, irreverent women help other mothers to find the humor in the mundane trials and tribulations of raising children. Whenever you start thinking you're not the perfect mother you wanted to be or that your kids aren't the perfect kids you wanted them to be, read another chapter of this book. Caryl and Marilyn will make you laugh and feel better about yourself and your family. Even if your life is perfect, read the book anyway. It will still make you laugh.

Summary: A hilarious yet thoughtful look at being a mom in the '90s
Review: These women have an incredibly funny and fun view on parenting and relationships in today's world. I could not put the book down. I ended up feeling refreshed and even comforted to know that I was not alone in my travails as a mom.

Summary: Could not stop laughing!
Review: Three friends; seven kids (girls-4,5,6 & 9...boys-4,5 & 8) were at a backyard pool. One friend starts reading "The Mother Load" to pass the time. She could not stop laughing out loud. In order to be in on the humor we made her read out loud. We had such a good time. Each of us took turns reading aloud while the kids swam. When we would take a break we'd share our own stories. We have never had so much fun and related to most of your tales. The "nirvana mommie" was hilarious. We planned to pass the book around, but it's so much more fun to read it aloud with your best friends. We are looking forward to seeing what you are up to next.
