Rating: Summary: What everyone who wants a divorce should read--first! Review: As a Divorce Master and Child Support Conference Officer for over five years, I have had the chance to see, meet--and experience--thousands of folks mired in the messy process of divorce. I only wish I could require them to read this book before getting into court. Ms Walton has been successful in crystalizing in 101 simple kernels of advice what those people need to know. This is must reading for anyone contemplating jumping into the foreign world of the legal system because it puts in perspective the mysteries of the judicial process. Most of those who have taken the plunge and made that fateful decision to get divorced have no concept of what is really going to happen and how it will affect them and their families. This book may be an eye opener because it forces you to see that divorce does not affect just you and your mate, but everyone around you. It also reminds you that this is only a short stage of your whole life. But most of all, it guides you--with some of the most useful, practical advice you will ever get. I have seen it on a daily basis--people who have no clue about what is really going on. If only I could offer them advice--it would be this book. It is the most succinct, accurate and easy read on the subject I have ever seen. I highly recommend it for everyone--to read before you decide to take that drastic step of filing for divorce.
Rating: Summary: This pamphlet was a waste of $, with one sentence per page. Review: As hard as a divorce is to go through, it's even harder to believe that a lawyer would make a mockery of it by writing one sentence on each page and call it a book. It took me exactly four minutes to read it from cover to cover. If I didn't feel fleeced going into the divorce, I sure felt like it after getting this book in the mail. No advice was given that you couldn't hear from your own mother! It cost more than $10 and it wasn't worth $1. I think that the author is cashing in on the plight and fear of people going through a divorce. I am sending the pamphlet back. Don't waste your time and money.

Rating: Summary: What you should be looking for in this book Review: Common sense advice. That's what you'll find in this book. There's no get-rich-quick schemes, no "how to take everything from your spouse' rules, no specific legal advice, since all the states' laws aren't the same. Just basic common sense reminders of the things that are really important for your SURVIVAL through the divorce and custody process: how to take care of yourself and your children. I wrote this book because I saw that in the thousands of cases I have handled, people tied up in the midst of emotional turmoil were missing what was real. Those are the tips in this book. No magic wands here. Just some little instructions for making it through to the other side. Divorce will touch the lives of just about everyone in some way, either personally or once removed through friends or family. This book is something anyone dealing with the consequences of these events can use as a tool to order their thoughts and set priorities based on the realities of the situation.
Rating: Summary: ANY tip in here is worth 10X the price of the book Review: Divorce can be liberating. But it can also be extremely painful, expensive, and nerve-wracking. Divorce is hard enough without knowing these instructions. Thanks to this book, you can arm yourself with plenty of helpful information. No, it is not an exhaustive compendium on every possible contingency, a ''how to specifically do everything'' book. Face it---no book CAN offer personalized instructions on how to proceed with YOUR particular divorce. But I can honestly say this: As a twice-divorced person who accidentally happened to follow some of the instructions [my divorces occured before the book was written] I can say the instructions are helpful. And after reading the book recently, I wish it had been available back then so I could have followed ALL the instructions and made these trying events a lot LESS trying. If you're getting a divorce, by all means get a good lawyer if you can't resolve things amicably. But also be sure to read this book. Knowledge is power, after all. And if you're fortunate enough to never divorce, remember your friends and family members who may benefit from 101 LITTLE INSTRUCTIONS. It would make a great gift.
