Rating: Summary: How YOUth Can Make Their Voices Heard! Review: I'm very proud to have written this book with 19-year-old Emanuel Tsourounis, II. This action guide goes beyond Emanuel's years of activism and my excitement from seeing youth-led campaigns happening in big cities and small towns all over the country. Lots of excerpts from YOUTH...
Rating: Summary: The real deal Review: Imagine my delight when I saw that a former student of mine co-authored a book on youth activism. I remember Emanuel as a 6th grader who was not involved in student government to feed his ego and to be part of a popularity contest, but to find a way to make a difference in his school community. This book is the real thing - a must for all kids and the adults who work with them.
Rating: Summary: Here's proof how MINORS can play a MAJOR role Review: More than 1/4 of the population-26%-is under the age of 18. However, 26% also remain unheard in many issues that directly affect them. YOUTH! THE 26% SOLUTION reveals how young people with firsthand knowledge of many of today's problems can succeed at getting decision-makers, from school principals to their state senators, to respond to their ideas of change. Dozens of true stories show how activists at any age can put their passion into action. High school senior Nathaniel Thomas claims, "Without 26%, it would have taken me countless hours to find the right information to conduct a successful lobbying campaign." Steve Fortier of the Center for Living Democracy says, "Quite possibly the best resource for young people...Every youth leadership program should have this one on their bookshelf." Jacqueline Brand with Connect for Kids writes, "To call it just a book would be a misnomer because once you've read it you'll want to get involved."
Rating: Summary: one of the best books i've ever read Review: This book provides everyone, from the uninvolved individual, to the adult ally, to the veteran youth activist, with something. This is an empowering book, both fun to read, plus loaded with information tools. I turn to this book frequently, it helps me with work, and it is a great gift for anyone!.
Rating: Summary: All youth should have this book Review: This book provides the reader with stories of real young people who are making positive change and then gives you the tools to help you too. as a teen in america, i often feel that society just thinks we're evil. wendy lesko's book reaffirms what i guess i knew inside- that we can be leaders of Today... everyone should read, and re-read this book.
Rating: Summary: The book has been co-authored by a youth- Review: When I see a book about student activism and getting involved, I first check to see who wrote it. This book was co-authored by a youth-- that's what makes it special. I don't see how an adult can write, on their own, about being a student activist. Wendy Lesko walks her talk and put a great resource together.
