Summary: "LABOR DAY" READS LIKE A NOVEL!
Review: Being a father and grandfather of "the old school" (who had no greatest fear than not getting his wife in time to the hospital "when the time came"!), I didn't think that I would derive a great deal of pleasure reading that book upon which I stumbled quite fortuitously. To my pleasant surprise, though, nothing could have been further from the truth! Indeed, I thoroughly enjoyed "LABOR DAY". I sincerely think that Ann-Marie Giglio did a super job collecting and editing those stories that read like novels. Incidentally, this is also the opinion of my daughter and daughter-in-law (both mothers themselves) to whom I gave copies of the book.

Review: I am in my first pregnancy, and very overwhelmed by the thought of giving birth. I have heard so many horror stories! I needed something to give me a positive affirmation that I can do this! I found that "something" in this book. This book gives the personal and positive yet honest accounts of just about every delivery immaginable. The text is easy to read and very captivating. I would recommend this book to anyone - moms and dads to be, parents already, or health care workers!

Summary: THE TRUE MIRACLE OF BIRTH
Review: I have always believed that the true miracle of birth is that after they put the bundle of joy in your arms, you're ready to forget the pain and start again! Very rarely in my discussions with friends did I hear the same belief expressed. Therefore it was truly wonderful to read of women who share the feelings I had during the birth of my two children. While the birthing process is not a mystery, the emotions involved are special and it is warming to the soul to learn about others' similar experiences. This is a great book for reminiscing...

Summary: Life is beautiful!
Review: I just finished reading Labor Day, and as a mother of two children, it really touched my heart and brought back many precious moments in my own personal experience. Labor Day captures the magic of the maternal bond which is unlike any other. It is a great read for expectant mothers and a perfect gift, especially for first timers, who have much to look forward to as they enter the special club of motherhood. I plan to make it a standard baby gift in the future (It's also reasonably priced!). Ms. Giglio does an excellent job capturing the moment(s). Enjoy!

As someone who is trying to get pregnant, and will hopefully soon be going throught the labor process, I can not read enough "birth stories" This book has a collection of 35 stories, most of them written from the laboring mothers point of view, but some are written from the husbands point of view. I plan to buy this book for every baby shower I'm invited to for the rest of my life. Any woman who is expecting will love this book. And for only [price], it's a great deal.

I laughed out-loud at the way he expressed himself. This husband should be a full-time writer. I am sending it to my sister who is a professor of nursing. I am sure she will enjoy sharing many of the stories with her college nursing students.

Summary: Labor Day is a Holiday
Review: I only wish I had read "Labor Day" before the birth of my son. I had heard so many horror stories about childbirth; the intense fear, excruciating pain, feelings of detachment towards the new born, etc. The book gives a positive and humerous outlook on what is truly a remarkable and spiritual event. I enjoyed reading about such diverse circumstances and personal experiences from so many individuals. Whether giving birth in a parking lot, having an underwater birth, or the traditional hospital delivery, all the stories were uplifting and heart warming. I would definitely reccommend this book to anyone expecting their first or fifth child. The joy felt after and even during birth is unparalleled to any experience on earth. Ann-Marie Giglio captures many different experiences and emotions of childbirth. Everyone is sure to find some comfort, solace, and even humor in awaiting the big day after reading "Labor Day".
