Rating: Summary: MUST HAVE- and I have read all the other books! Review: Get one of the other books so you can look up what to do when your kid gets that strange rash...use this book the other 99% of the time. Realistic advice, brand recommendations, tips that have been used and shared...you get the best of the best. I suppose you could just go out and interview 150 accomplished and experienced mothers instead... :) but I recommend getting the book...
Rating: Summary: Great practical advice from moms who've been there Review: I liked reading this book. The format and sections make it easy and fun to find a topic you want and easy to get a lot of info in a short amount of time. Who has time for large tomes when they become a parent!? Great gift idea for a new mom! I felt good knowing the contributing authors were geographically dispersed. It made me feel there is a balance to the advice. Sometimes I wish there were less brand-specific stuff in there. It isn't like Baby Bargains which rates brands, but sometimes things are mentioned. I've found over time that many brands for things like food or products are fine. There is not always a right answer.

Rating: Summary: Great for 1st time moms! Review: I think this book was a great idea getting so many views from 142 moms. I was one of contributing authors. There is alot of insight from different cultures that will touch everyone no matter were they live. Trish Hale
Rating: Summary: Honest advice from real moms Review: The "Mom-to-Mom Guide" is a collection of advice from real moms, arranged by topic. It's the kind of advice a new mom might get from friends in her playgroup or online parenting group. And it has the strengths and weaknesses of that type of advice. Strength: It's based on real experience and incorporates many points of view. Weakness: With so many points of view, sometimes it's hard to know whom to listen to. This is compounded by the fact that as a reader, you don't actually know any of the moms. so you can't judge the advice based on your knowledge of the advisor. And, as in real life, the contributors don't always agree with each other--one item actually made both the "Products We Couldn't Live Without" list and the "Products to Avoid" list! Still, there are a lot of handy tidbits in here. Specific advice on which brands and products to buy may be particularly useful for first-time parents in financial shock. And there are great tips on taking care of yourself, as well. (A sample: "Babies are God's most precious gift to mothers. Babysitters are the second most precious.") Because the contributing moms submitted their suggestions in their own words, their individual voices come through--and they are the kind of warm, supportive voices every new mother needs. Ultimately, I think the multiplicity of voices reminds the reader of what every new parent needs to learn: Advice is useful, but in the end you decide how to raise your own child.

Rating: Summary: First Rate Reference Book from the "Experts" Review: These Moms tell it like it is. I like the way the book is organized, so that I can quickly find what I need when I need it!
Rating: Summary: Geat Real! Review: This book has been reviewed mostly in part by the moms that have a line in it. Basicly this book encourages Moms to take a backseat to parenting and put MOM first! Sorry, as real life does not work this way. Great book if you want to believe in "Never Never Land".
Rating: Summary: A good reference Review: This book is a good reference source as a new mom. It can cut to the chase on most topics. Some of the recommendations for products are rather high end in terms of cost but it is a good starting point when sorting out products. I would recommend it as an aid to a first time parent.
Rating: Summary: Very informative! Review: This is a fantastic book for every mom struggling through the baby years. You can't beat the experience of moms who have been there, done that, and figured out how to succeed at it. I was priviledged to contribute to this book, and I will keep it handy to borrow ideas from the other 141 moms who also contributed. A must for baby showers and new mommy gifts!
