Summary: Working Mom finds help
Review: As a "tired" working Mom I many times feel guilty and sometimes overwhelmed with the needs of my two children. I want to be a good Mom but being tired presents real problems. When I read this book I immediately saw my children as little people with their own struggles too! I look at each day differently now. They don't seem like such a burden any more. They are actually the center of my day and I enjoy them more than ever. Because the book helped me really see them, I want to understand them better. All of this doesn't seem so overwhelming now. I understand the meaning of "love" more because I understand the needs and wishes of my kids better. I am finally recognizing the meaning of being a "parent" and becoming more unselfish as I take care of daily responsibilities. What a wake-up call!

Summary: Day Care Teacher/Director says THANK YOU!
Review: I am not too proud to say that I needed advice when I had my baby. If it wasn't for the hospital and their parenting classes I would have made a lot of mistakes. They gave me a copy of this great parenting book, and it helped me understand my baby better. I try to give it to my friends who live in other towns (their hospital isn't giving parenting classes or this book). When they receive the book, they have all thanked me, and it has actually made us all closer friends. We discuss our concerns more and aren't afraid to ask for answers anymore. We realize we don't have all the answers and it's OK to be real. I've never done a review before and my friend is sitting here helping me, but we want to let others know how much help from this book we have had. Thank you. Is there anyone out there who can give books to other hospitals, so it can help other young Moms the way it has helped me?

Summary: Not a great gift idea...
Review: I bought this book as a gift for some friends who recently adopted a child. They were having some marital problems just prior to the adoption, but they "worked things out". I thought this book might be helpful, however I've decided it's not an appropriate gift.

I wholeheartedly agree with the solutions offered, however I feel a lot of this book is geared for new parents who don't have the advantage of knowing how to care for their children.

For example:

"I need a clean bed and clean soft blankets."

"I need my diaper to be checked often."

"I need a sponge bath or a tub bath every day."

"I wish you could keep a list of the food we need. This will help us when we do our shopping."

There are also many sections that speak directly to harmful parental behaviour:

"I wish you would get help if you're angry too much."

Spousal abuse: "Mommy - please tell someone - or get some help! I am always afraid."

"Before you lose control and hurt me badly...<presents a list of helpful options>."

I was looking for a gentle reminder, but coming from me, this book sounds accusatory - the situations presented would never happen with my friends. I'd advise against it as a gift unless you know the parents *really* need help and don't know any better.

There are some beautiful sentiments in this book and I'm disappointed I can't just offer those to my friends.

Summary: My Baby says "Thank you"!
Review: I have been attending parenting classes for teen Moms. If I didn't attend the class I could have lost my baby. I didn't want to give my baby up but I didn't want to do the work to take care of him either. My family was mad at me all the time because I would leave and go to the mall with my friends and hang out. I was suppose to be in school so I could graduate but I didn't want to do that either. It was the parenting class and counseling that really opened my eyes. When they gave us this special parenting book, I cried after I read a few pages. I finally saw what everyone was trying to tell me - "My baby needs me (I'm the Mommy) and my baby needs me to be responsible. I didn't understand what being a responsible Mom was until I read this book and went to the classes! I wanted to find a way to say "thank you", so my instructor encouraged me to find it on Amazon and so here I am... I read the other comments and I disagree with the one who said it isn't a good gift idea - This is the BEST GIFT I could have received (other than my baby boy)! I am also going to graduate from High School this year... (I feel much better about myself)

Review: I received this wonderful book over a year ago when I was in the hospital having my son. A few months later his father left us. I received several parenting books, but didn't feel like reading. I was busy finding a job and feeling sad and scared. One day I decided to finally clean up the books stacked up beside my bed, and I was drawn to this book. For me to take the time to find this site and to write this, means I am motivated (I have never done this before). I don't know who will ever read this, but I want to some way say "thank you"! I love the way the book is written, it is written from my baby son to me. I "see" him now... I understand his feelings better... and I even understand my feelings better. I realize he has been going through hard things because I have been struggling. I have grown up over night! I am the MOM, and my job is to understand and care for my child! I got so much from the house cleaning and cooking section- My gosh - I never thought that much about the house and how it affects us... Thank you, thank you! I wish more young Moms could have this great book so they could SEE what these little kids need from their parents!

Summary: Day Care Teacher/Director says THANK YOU!
Review: I recently returned from a Day Care conference in Denver, CO. I have been taking care of children for 18 years. I love them more than I can say, but a growing problem is exisiting and I don't care what the so-called professionals say. When both parents work or there is a single Mom that has no choice, these little kids feel the stress. It is hard to be yanked out of bed when you are little and tired and rushed to Day Care so Mom (& Dad) can get to work on time. Many of these children didn't have breakfast (we have this as part of our service) and their faces aren't clean, hair isn't brushed and clothes are sloppily thrown on them! What kind of life is this for the children of this nation?!! I know I am talking myself out of a job, but I think every Mom that can stay home when their kids are young, should do so! Several of these books are in our library and it is required reading if their child comes to our day care. Since we started doing this, we have seen a tremendous difference in how the children are brought to us. Parents check on their children during the day, they pick them up on time, they show them how much they missed them, etc... What a difference!

Summary: Good common sense!
Review: I work with parents or teen and single Moms on a regular basis. I am always looking for parenting books that will help me be more teachable. DEAR MOMMY DEAR DADDY certainly filled the bill! How wonderful to finally find a parenting book that expresses needs, wants and concerns of young children. I see it as a special training program for the parent from their child. So easy to follow and to understand. When I use the common sense (basic) messages in the book, my class actually listens. When I ask them to read a section, they actually read it (and understand what it says)! I have overcome many obstacles because of this wonderful parenting book written as if by the baby & young child. "Thank you!"
