Summary: Not quite what I had in mind
Review: I have to say I was a bit disappointed in this book. I, as a first time mom, was looking for a book that was informative as well as a bit humorous but not dry like many "Baby's First Year" books. The author is funny in some of her anecdotes, but the book as a whole comes off as a bit extreme. I have a 6 week old baby who is far from perfect, but she has not been anywhere near as bad as the babies described in the book. In fact, I think that some people would be scared off from having children if they were to read this book beforehand. I don't think I would recommend this book. I'm sure there are other books out there that would better serve the needs of first time mothers. Thanks for your time :)

Summary: A "Funny" book about that first year of Motherhood
Review: I recieved this book from my mother when I was pregnant with my first child. I didn't really read it until my daughter was 4 months old, but it still had me in stitches.

This book is meant to look at that first year of motherhood from an honest, yet funny approach. I really wouldn't use it for reference book like a Dr. Sears or Dr. Spock type book (although there are references and numbers you can call for more information on certain topics/subjects). This is meant to be a humerous, yet sometimes very truthful book about the first year of motherhood. It shows we all have many of the same issues and concerns, but shows them in a funny manner. Yes, some of what she tells may be a bit extreme, but that is what makes it so funny. You can still relate to what she is saying and may even have some similar expereinces come up.

I would definitely recommend this book. Especially if you are looking for something humerous. I have given this book to many of my "new mommy" friends and each and everyone has enjoyed it.

Summary: baby book for the self absorbed socialite
Review: I was VERY disapointed in this book. I was hoping for something that would better explain the emotional feelings of the first year with my new baby. Instead I couldn't identify with 90% of what the author wrote about. I felt as if I was reading an account of the emotional roller coaster a young, social, self absorbed, and low confidance new mother was going through. I found sugestions for using toll free numbers just to get much needed adult conversation disturbing (was she trying to be funny?). And there was very little useful practical advice. It does cover the obvious distresses of your being concerned about your looks, the state of your house, and feeling of lonliness and isolation felt by most new mothers. But the accounts are extreme, and frightning, and not normal. I found it useful only as an example of new parents being completely unprepared for a baby and out of touch with each others emotions and needs.

Review: This book is a must for every new mom - it is "Erma Bombeck meets Dr. Spock" and it contains everything you need for that first year. It's practical and funny and I couldn't put it down - it was my life and thoughts and problems all right there in front of me. This book addresses the real issues that are left out of so many other parenting books. You can look up a specific topic, or just read it for fun and information. My husband loved it, too - it's the only parenting book he's ever picked up for longer than 5 minutes! I'm sure this author, her husband and her children continue to live with great style and humor - I hope she writes more to prepare us for later stages.

Review: This book was so funny I almost ripped out my c-section stitches laughing over it. My husband liked it, and even my father loved it. He said he wished he'd read it when my mom first had me, he would have understood what was going on with her a lot better. I feel like the author's a friend of mine. She has really helped me through this tough first year. I'll definitely pass it on to my friends. THANKS!!!

Summary: A practical, upbeat, humorous, and realistic guide for new moms
Review: When my first child was born, I frantically read through the standard baby books, and found that while those books are helpful on such issues as developmental growth, illnesses, and milestones, they do very little to help a new mother cope with the dramatic changes and daily challenges in her life. I needed to read a book written by a mother who had not yet achieved complete amnesia for childbirth and the first year of motherhood. I needed practical advice and I needed humor. Badly. And so I wrote The New Mother's Survival Guide -- beginning when my daughter was 4 weeks old, and continuing through her first year, and then writing and revising through my son's birth and his first year -- for those moms who are searching for understanding, reassurance, commiseration, humor, and practical advice. I hope the book will be both a friend and a guide to new moms.
