Summary: The first book ever to discuss all common breathing problems
Review: If Pollen Season Has Taken Your Breath Away, Breathe Right Now' Can Give It Back With New Treatments to Halt and Reverse Symptoms JACKSONVILLE, Fla., April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 60 million Americans have allergy and asthma; more than 20 million have chronic lung disease. With El Nino causing pollen counts to soar, breathing clearly is the focus of many. "Pollen is a never-ending battle for people with allergy, sinusitis, asthma, and lung disease, and I speak from personal experience," reported author Debra Fulghum Bruce, a medical journalist and coauthor of Breathe Right Now: A Comprehensive Guide to Understanding and Treating the Most Common Breathing Disorders (Norton, $25.00, hardcover) with Cleveland Clinic pulmonologist Laurence Smolley, M.D. The cure? Get a diagnosis, find the best treatments -- and don't give up! "Many people accept the coughing, sneezing, and wheezing caused by pollen. Yet pollen season can run year-round, and symptoms needlessly shut down your life. Newer inhaled medications treat underlying inflammation and greatly reduce symptoms, letting you live again," Bruce said. And Bruce should know. In "Breathe Right Now" she tells of growing up "thinking that constant congestion was normal." According to Bruce, "from spring until fall, no one in my family could breathe well, suffering from sinusitis, allergy and asthma." Now she knows differently. With three children having asthma and her father diagnosed with emphysema, Bruce was determined to find solutions. She interviewed experts across the nation, and these findings are revealed in her book. The authors also suggest medical and alternative ways readers can control problems that are traced to environmental factors like pollen, dust, and mold. Breathe Right Now is the first comprehensive book that does not endorse a single regimen, but challenges readers to choose treatments that work for them. It also explains the wide spectrum of common breathing problems from colds, allergy, and sinusitis, to sinobronchitis, asthma and emphysema. The book has special sections on new methods of diagnosis, breakthrough medications, taking charge of environmental and workplace triggers, sleep problems, nutritional healing, exercise and breathing, stress reduction, and alternative medicine.

Summary: Great book!!
Review: Super book & easy to read. Figured out why all my kids sneeze and cough--inherited it from the parents. Excellent section on alternative treatment for stress-related problems. Recommend to anyone who has allergies, asthma or breathing problems.

Summary: AWESOME BOOK!!! I can breathe again.
Review: Super book! Easy to understand. Chapters on allergy, asthma, sinusitis, rhinitis, and lung disease. Great information on medications and how they work--but understandable, not over the head of the reader. Also enjoyed the alternative medicine chapter and understanding how stress affects breathing. This book helped me get back in control with my chronic allergies. I've learned WHEN to take medication and how they will work to stop swelling and mucus production. AWESOME.

Summary: 20 years of asthma--now no wheezing at all
Review: Thanks for the book. Started on the steroid inhaler and have not had an asthma attack in two months (that's after 20 years of cough and wheeze!!!). Great to know that I can start living again. If you cannot breathe--grab this book and don't put it down until you finish it. It explains WHY you can't breathe and more importantly, HOW to solve it. Superb.

Summary: WORTH EVERY PENNY--EXCELLENT.
Review: This resource stays by my bedside and I read some each night. It has given me new hope with my COPD. I've asked my doctor about the newer medications and we are starting to try Accolate next week (I have asthma too!!). Education is so important, and this book is written so that any person can understand all about breathing problems--then how to solve them. THANKS!!!

Summary: WISH I HAD READ THIS BOOK YEARS AGO!
Review: Where was this book when I needed it? I was diagnosed with COPD years ago and had literally given up on exercise and activity. With this book, I feel hopeful that my life is just beginning. I took the book to my pulmonologist and asked about the newer medications and how exercise might help me. He got me enrolled in a rehab program, and now my breathing is not as challenged. Thank you, Dr. Smolley, I feel like I can start to travel again.
