Summary: Teacher Turned Full-Time Mommy!
Review: I orderer this book because I am currently a high school teacher with little experience with small children. I am a first time mom with a very busy two year old. Because I love planning and I understand that children of all ages need a fairly structured day, I was looking for a book that would help me better understand what a two year old would like to do and give me a daily, weekly or monthly plan to follow. The book is broken up into months and then into weeks. For instance, July has a heavy focus on our country's birth in the first week and then it moves you and your cherub to other summertime activities. The author seems to enjoy tradition, hands-on activities and themes for the entire month. She provides some good ideas and a parent can expand the ideas to suit their needs. As a teacher, I fully understand how important it is to create "lesson plans" for our children, that it's important to keep a scheduled day and that reading and singing need to be a big part of it all. Jan Brennan has reminded me of all the songs I used to sing from my childhood and she has a very extensive list of books to read to your child (I haven't checked yet, but I'm sure one could get the books at your local library or from Amazon.com!). With Brennan's help, I am looking forward to getting our day ready the night before and collecting supplies on Sunday before the week starts. My teaching days are far from over!

Summary: Teacher Turned Full-Time Mommy!
Review: The activities in this book for toddlers are organized chronologically by month, and then divided by week. Each month has a theme (or treasure as the author calls them). For example, January's theme is winter, for March it's music and movement, for July it's freedom, and for November, thankfulness. The weekly themes are borrowed from a nursery rhyme. There is a wonderful mix of suggested books to read, songs based on familiar melodies, recipes, and activities such as games, exercise, and plays, which both teach and entertain. We've found this a really useful and fun book.

Summary: Great ideas but maybe a little advanced for 2's
Review: This book is just what I was looking for! Activities are organized by every week of the year. There are seasonal activities, a short book list, recipes, songs, field trips and fingerplays. The activities are easily done with items around the house. I especially liked that the ideas were geared toward one child or a small group of children instead of a day care setting. I think the book will become even more useful next year when my toddler is a preschooler.
