Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: I read Tom MacMahon's Book for a college class, and I felt that it was very insightful. I am 22 years old and although I don't have kids, this book still gave me some great tips on how to deal with adolescents. Each chapter in the book focused on important issues that every parent and teen will run into. I was glad to see that my parents used many of the good parenting techniques mentioned in Tom's book. I would highly advise anyone with kids, or even if your planning to have kids, to read Tom Macmahon's book titled Teen Tips. I'm sure that you will find it very interesting and insightful.

Rating: Summary: review of teen tips Review: I read Tom McMahon's book, Teen Tips, for a class I took on Adolescence. Usually I would return my books after the quarter but I have decided to hang on to Tom's book because I feel it has some great ideas about how to deal with today's teens. I don't have any kids yet but I can relate to some of the situations that Tom mentions in his book because I was a teen not so long ago. I plan on keeping this book to refer to when I am in a sticky situation with my kids. I believe that Tom has fair ideas that benefit both the teen and the parent. If you have a child who is nearing adolescence I would definitely recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: parenting Review: I thought this was a great book for parents who want to learn from other parents. The teens' input was great, as well. I liked the parent skill builders. The chapter topics were relevant and timely. One thing I felt was missing was more specific advice for lower-class and minority issues. It definitely has a white middle class feel to it. Perhaps the next edition could include more input from other parts of the country, as well as from parents who don't have the option of buying their child a computer, etc. Overall, the book was well worth reading and keeping as a reference in working with juveniles as well as parenting them.
Rating: Summary: Excellent communication strategies! Review: I'm a 30 yr. old, married woman who doesn't have kids yet, but I can assure you that Tom's tips will be used when that day comes! Tom's "tips" are universal and apply to many of the CURRENT issues facing teens and their parents today. Furthermore, it's a book I have highly recommended to many of my friends who have children that are just now entering adolescence.

Rating: Summary: A guide for every parent with teens Review: In one of my college classes, Adolescence, we read the book Teen Tips and I found it very interesting and helpful. I liked the book so much that I am keeping it instead of returning it at the end of the quarter. Tom McMahon provided so many helpful tips such as getting kids to do chores as well as how to handle peer pressure. He offered insightful ways to handle the day to day problems as well as all the difficult problems adolescent's face. I have a two and a half year old and I know that when my daughter becomes a teen I will be refering back to Tom's wonderful book to help raise her. I definetly recommend this book to anyone with teenagers to help them get through the adolescent years.
Rating: Summary: "All parents with teens should read this book!" N.M.S.A. Review: The National Middle School Association writes this about TEEN TIPS: "All parents with teens should read this book." The San Jose Mercury News says this about TEEN TIPS: "McMahon has written what may be the definitive book on not only surviving, but relishing and enhancing those tumultuous years of being the parent of an adolescent."
Rating: Summary: Teen Tips A Pratical Survival Guide for Parents with Kids Review: This book is a must for all parents of preteens and teens. Having two sons, a preteen and teen, I was lost at figuring out how to let them be young responsible adolescents. Many of the household rules my husband and I tried to implement were broken. Upon reading TEEN TIPS we were able to find different ways to work with our sons. The best tip I found was just listen to your teen. I found myself listening but not giving my full attention to my sons. Now I take the time and effort to listen to them. This new found trust allows them to come and talk to me without any hesitation. I now cherish the time I have with each son as he comes to talk to me. Thanks Tom for creating this extraoridinary book.
Rating: Summary: Great Tips Review: This book provides excellent insights to the life of a teenager. It was a pleasure reading it because it brought back some memories of my adolescents years. It was also interesting and informative to read the tips that other parents have. I have recommended this book to some of the people I know have teenagers now. This is definetely a great book for parents.
