Rating: Summary: Booklist review Review: "Coming from Dr. Ruth, this pregnancy adviser contains more about sex than many others, but with obstetrician-gynecologist Grunebaum as coauthor, it provides plenty of medical information, too. Sexual and medical information and advice are dispensed throughout, and clear line drawings illustrate the physiological stages of pregnancy as well as many recommended positions for sexual intercourse throughout pregnancy....Fine of its kind."--Booklist, 4/99
Rating: Summary: Library Journal review Review: "Westheimer, probably the best-known sex therapist in the world, joins forces with Grunebaum, a respected obstetrician-gynecologist, to present a positive, factual, and modern approach to intimacy and childbirth. Their book is a compendium of sound information for couples as they plan for and experience conception, pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood....Noteworthy because it is written with both parents in mind, this paperback is recommended."--Library Journal, 3/99
Rating: Summary: Not bad, but certainly not the best Review: After having read "The Unofficial Guide To Having A Baby", this book just didn't compare. In only the first few chapters, there were references to "hanging from the chandelier"! I admit, the idea of that was funny, but not what I was looking for at that particular point in time. And things such as that caused me to lose interest in this book - and fast! The "Unofficial Guide" mentioned above is a much better, more informative book in my opinion. Dr. Ruth's was so/so, but as I said - NOT THE BEST.

Rating: Summary: Throw away "What to Expect ....." Review: Everyone, I mean, everyone buys "What to expect when you are expecting" for pregnancy. But have you ever read it? Well, I have, and I have read Dr.Ruth's book, too. And Dr.Ruth has really "done it", so to speak. Clear, concise, to the point. With enough pictures to get the point across. Pregnancy can be fun again.
Rating: Summary: Less about sex, more about how to be a patient Review: I bought this book in hopes of finding discussion of various positions for sex during pregnancy, coupled with emotional information and guidance about sexuality. While there is a bit of that information, the bulk of the information in the book is how to be a good OB patient. With line drawings of episiotomies, forceps deliveries, and a few dismissive paragraphs on home birthing and other birthing alternatives, Drs. Westheimer and Grunebaum strive to keep women in the dark about the culmination of the sexual act: the birth itself. If you need help in choosing an anesthesiologist or deciding which surgical procedure should be performed on you at birth, then buy this book. If you're looking for good information on intimacy during pregnancy, keep looking.
Rating: Summary: GREAT INFO., MUST READ! BEST NUTRITION ADVICE Review: I got this book without concluding that if Dr. Ruth cowrote it it would have to be focused on sexual intimacy. While sexual intimacy and gratification are thoroughly discussed, there is much more to the book (and to sex by the way). All women and couples need to remember their sexuality during pregnancy and prepare for the changes that pregnancy and parenthood will bring. You can't expect to take sex out of a marraige and pick up a year later exactly where you left off. So many couples complain about how having a baby ruins their sex life or puts a major strain on it but it doesn't have to be that way if you are prepared! This advice is so important it is shameful that hardly any pregnnacy books address these issues. This book has the best advice on nutrition I have found in any of the more mainstream and popular pregnancy books I have read. It is even better than what I have heard from Dr.s and midwives who only seem to have vague or terribly rigid and unscientific biases about nutrition. This comprehensive book is very medical and takes you from preconception to labor. The most beautiful thing about it is the importance and validation it places on the couple who are growing into a new life stage together as parents.
Rating: Summary: A very serious and funny book Review: Most pregnancy books provide you with dry and boring information. This book co-written by the famous Dr.Ruth with Dr.Grunebaum, a New York ObGyn, provides you with refreshing and medically accurate information. It's different than other books because it addresses issues that other books won't even talk about like sexual positions, masturbation, and orgasm. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Very refreshing and unique information Review: There are so many pregnancy books out there, and what does Dr. Ruth know about pregnancy anyway? Well, I was really positively surprised. Many people don't realize it, but it's sex that gets you pregnant in the first place, so this book makes a lot of sense. And it doen't stop there. There is also plentiful updated medical information for everyone who has additional questions. A great addition to everyone's pregnancy book collection!
Rating: Summary: Great book for pregnant couples and those trying Review: This book is a great introduction for couples trying to get pregnant and those already pregnant.
