Summary: Comfort Food for Parents
Review: I can't believe this book is out of print. I bought this book years ago on the advice of a friend and I have loved this book all through my children's growing up. My favorite chapters are ON BEING FAIR ("...rearing three children is like growing a cactus, a gardenia and a tubful of impatiens. Each needs varying amounts of water, sunlight and pruning. Were I to be absolutely fair, I would have to treat each child as if he or she were absolutely identical to the other siblings, and there would be no profit for anyone in that."; TEN YEAR-OLD'S TACKLE FOOTBALL ("Small boys learn to be large men in the presence of large men who care about small boys."); and IN PRAISE OF TEACHERS ("If I were in charge of the universe, good teachers would earn far more than cabinet ministers; the latter are replaceable, the former are not.")

If you are a parent of a child of any age, this book will become a favorite friend.
