Review: I read Ms. Brakeman's book last Fall. Today I invited her to my church so that others could hear her and read the book. I liked the book so much I bought five more copies to give away as Christmas presents. She skillfully lifts up possibilities of using the Bible for our relationship issues. I liked her chapter Idle Tales so much; I thought what a gusty interpretation of the Easter morning resurrection scene. It made me laugh too. As a spiritual person I liked the focus on the energy between us not blaming the other. Her contribution to equality for women and men is such a gift and a great complement to the patriarchal stories in Holy Scripture. Her developoment of the story seemed consistant with biblical scholarship I have read recently. I invited her to the Cathedral so that others could be exposed to the author and the healing of this book. Many after her presentation bought her book looking I think for refreshment and spiritual nourishment.

Summary: A Found Treasure: Sell what you have and buy it!
Review: This is an exciting book. Rev. Lyn Brakeman has woven together in an intelligent and insightful manner both the historical and the imaginal dimensions of biblical midrash in order to invite us into a dynamic,relational,and immensely imminent encounter with the divine. As each story unfolds, we are drawn deeper into that space, which can be rare in spiritually based books, where we both touch the pain and joy of the characters and simultaneously are stirred in our own individual sorrows and delights.
Only someone with a sound psychological understanding of the nature of interpersonal dynamics could imagine her way into the heart of such poignant situations. And skilled wordsmith that she is, she carries us there with her.
I was surprised, challenged and touched by Rev. Brakeman's vision. There is something new under the sun! As a Jungian psychoanalyst, clinical pastoral counselor and graduate level educator, I highly recommend this book to all ages. I would especially like to see it as part of a senior high and/or college curriculum.
