Rating: Summary: Extremely informative. Review: Extremely informative reference guide for any parent who wants to educate themselves about immunizations - - a subject all parents should be concerned about, and one that is currently too biased by the medical/pharmaceutical communities. This books sheds invaluable light on the subject!
Rating: Summary: Great overview, but a bit slanted and now out of date Review: I bought this book as my main text to help us decide on whether or not to get our child vaccinated. As it breaks down each vaccine individually, it was very helpful for us to make individual decisions. I still go back and refer to it frequently. I understand why the author included his opinion at the end of each chapter- its a difficult choice to make, and even though the information is being presented to us, we still want someone else to make a recommendation so that we don't, in the end, feel like we made an irresponsible choice. Nonetheless, by presenting his opinion, it might suggest that he slanted his "case in points" to help the reader make the same choice. It's very, very subtle, and despite this, I still agree with him on most aspects. My only problem with the book is that it contains outdated information (even at the time of publishing). So, if you want to know more about the issue in a clearly presented manner, this is a great book. But don't stop there. Keep looking for more current information (although its hard to find- there are two new books out on the subject (2001) that I just bought to find out how they compare). The issue of thimersol is slowly being addressed and some of the more controversial vaccines like DPT are being replaced systematically with DPaT. The polio vaccine has also undergone some changes. Be an informed parent. Informed consent implies that you as a parent should know the pros and cons of vaccines. This book and others present both sides, as well as a bit on why you don't get both sides from the doctor's office. In the end, the decision is yours and yours alone. In making our decision, we asked ourselves (among many other questions), would we feel worse if our child had permanent complications from the disease or from the vaccine? That may be how you ultimately decide.
Rating: Summary: I get it Review: I don't care if it is slanted! It's his book, so he can slant it however he wants. If you don't like it, return it. Fact of the matter is, the information is presented in a way that is easy to understand, not a lot of medical terminology or political jargon tossed in. He's not showing off. I have two copies of this book because one is frequently loaned out to a friend. I wish he would update it. Pediatrix scares the HE** out of me.
Rating: Summary: The Vaccine Guide:Making an Informed Choice Review: I found this book to be very helpful in determining which(if any) vaccines I wanted my child to have. Mr. Neustaedter was moderately unbiased (compared to most vaccine guides)in his opinion and provided scientific research and statistics to back up his views. It was refreshing to have statisitics and research as a back up instead of emotion.
Rating: Summary: Written with an obvious agenda Review: I have read many books on this contoversial subject and this was by far the best!!!! It was easy to read. He did not get caught up in the politics like many others have and gave good information about both the risks and the benefits. It is a must read for any parent struggling with the issue. It was the book that made up my mind about whether to vaccinate or not.

Rating: Summary: Written with an obvious agenda Review: I will give the author, Randall Neustaedter, credit for writing a very informative book. It appears to be well researched, it is an easy read, and he does not write over the reader's head with medical jargon. However, I did not have the book in my possession for more than 24-hours before I returned it. At the end of each chapter he ties together his research into a recommendation, and almost every time it is the same thing: "Don't get your child vaccinated." I found his conclusions ironic, when his research, in many cases, seemed to suggest that the chances of a child suffering a vaccine induced injury were remote, at best. In short, it was obvious to me that this book was written with a slant, and it was not the objective look at vaccines that my wife and I were hoping it would be.
Rating: Summary: The most information about vaccines is in this book! Review: If you're in doubt about whether or not to vaccinate your child, this book is for you. I recommend it to any parent or parent-to-be who wants to know both sides of the vaccination issue.
Rating: Summary: A complete discussion of vaccination. Review: Neustaedter, a family primary care physician, helps parents decide whether to immunize infants and children. He discusses toxicity of vaccines, treatments for adverse offects, legal requirements, alternative vaccines, and evaluations of vaccine effectiveness.
Rating: Summary: unsubstantiated nonsense Review: The author, a homeopath, has an agenda to convince the reader that immunizations are harmful to children without providing substantiated epidemiological or medical research to support his conclusions. He states that the medical community supports vaccines based on making causal conclusions from correlated events (which IS indeed "statistical fraud"), but then goes on to CONSISTENTLY do the same thing when trying to provide rationale for not immunizing. This book is so bad it is laughable and in no way makes me a better informed parent to help my decision making about this controversial topic.
