Rating: Summary: Don't Believe the Hype! Review: I read this book as a selection of my Book Club, Mind & Soul Alliance, and I must say that I was not impressed. This book was hyped up to be as some tell all about why men choose to leave home. It did not do that. Some may say that we are expecting to much by asking one book to give us this understanding but that was one of the main reasons I was looking forward to reading it. The only character that I found of interest was Caleb. All the others, well the Father needed more time in the book, the women were too weak and the other brothers were just plain under-developed. I could not feel the compassion for any of these characters he was trying to excavate. Nice promo job E.Lynn. Good luck to you next time.
Rating: Summary: Start over.....from the end Review: The dustcover as well as the professional reviews of this book made me believe that this was a story of a father and his sons coping with his absence and hopefully coming to some realistic resolution. A story that most certainly needs to be told. I was disappointed. I would have much rather preferred that Mr. Johnson start the story from the point where the father has a face to face with his sons until his death. The rest could be given as background information. As it stands, I never really felt as if these men's stories were completely told. Maybe Mr. Johnson will continue this story line, so these characters aren't left hanging.
Rating: Summary: very interesting, touching, dramatic, and real Review: This book really touched my heart. It was extremely interesting, but, I could actually feel the emotions that these guy's were feeling. Life is so beautiful when it comes to a full circle.
Rating: Summary: LACKING MUCH SUBSTANCE Review: I was very anguish to read The Harris Men from so much of what I heard about it. I opened my mind and delve into one of the worse books I have ever read. The characters are beyond unbelief. None were captivating or really very smart.Someone could have been strong, but they were all really pathetic. Better Luck next time Mr. Johnson.
Rating: Summary: Just Brilliant!!!! Review: This book touch my heart, with the opening pages regarding Julius having cancer. I was able to fully relate to him trying to reconcile with his children. My dad has the same illness and he is facing his own fears of making peace with his children. R.M. Johnson touch on many fears that a family torn apart faces.
Rating: Summary: A THoughtful,Insightful Read Review: I just finished reading this book this morning. Because I am currently unemployed, I truly felt what Caleb was going through, and it made me cry. It is a pitiful thing for a parent to leave a child, and never look back, but to rectify them, is very hard. I understood how and why these men had the issues they did. One brother did his own thing, another was the caretaker for the other two, and the other was just caught up in some negative stuff, that he couldn't see the hand that tried to help him. I feel sisters should read this book to understand how a man thinks and feels.
Rating: Summary: I need patience to wait for Father Found! Review: Well written, captivating. I savored reading a chapter each night, like a helping my mother's peach cobbler. I'm now able to understand that my father, just like Justice, couldn't confront his issues. Though my father stayed with his family, we too know the hurt of abandonment and rejection. I look forward to Father Found.
Rating: Summary: A EXCELLENT READ! Review: I really enjoyed the book and I did not want it to end. I hope the author's second book is a continuation of this one because I wanted to read more about the Marcus character and will he eventually forgive his father.
Rating: Summary: All men should read this book for soul searching. Review: This book is very insightful and should be read by men who have either left their families or are contemplating doing so. This author has done an excellent job identifying what it really means to be a man in a captivating style that both women and men can relate to. In addition, he reveals the emotion and sensitivity that men too often are unable to unleash. Excellent job! I am looking forward to his next work.
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT!!!!! Review: I heard about this book when E. Lynn Harris was promoting it on a local radio station here in Atlanta. This book was has given me an understanding of why some men hide their feelings, are afraid to show love, commit to love and/or to relationships. R.M. Johnson's story of three brothers growing up without a father and the effects it has on their lives, both present and in the future is a true testament to this. Marcus, Austin and Caleb all deal with the return of there father after a 20 year absence and return very differently. This is a must read for all. I enjoyed it very much!
