Summary: A true savior for parents with LD kids
Review: This book was recommended to parents of my special ed. students by our school counselor and every one of them who read it bought their own copy. It not only addresses the guilt that a parent can feel when a child is first diagnosed but explains in layman's terms exactly what the child is going through and feeling as he/she tries to deal with every day school environments and life situations. The companion book for children is more for intermediate elementary and up but can provide a basis for conversation with a younger child. I have given this book as a present to friends with LD children and it is always well received. Dr. Cummings has had personal experience with her own LD son and uses it, along with her experience as a special education college professor, to provide much needed information in a way that is less foreboding than more complicated, text book type self help books.
