Summary: A helpful bit of comic relief for sleep deprived new parents
Review: As a first time parent, I have been a little overwhelmed with all that is involved in having a baby. Reading Craker's book has been such a relief!

The book has a chapter for each of the first 12 months of baby's life. Each chapter begins with a letter that a mother has written to her child - they are heart-warming and moving. Then the chapter focuses on a few of the issues that occur/are appropriate for the respective months. Craker's wonderful sense of humor comes through on each and every page. She discusses everything from feeding baby, sleep (or lack there of!), to discipline. This is not a "how-to" book, rather it is more of a "from-one-mom-to-another" book. Rather than reading one chapter at a time, I read the book straight through. I laughed and cried, and then laughed some more. I highly recommed this book for new parents, it would also make a great gift!

Summary: Sensible and Fun
Review: I bought this book after the birth of my 2nd child...who was much more difficult than my 1st. I found this book to be fun, funny, and the most balanced approach to finding what's right for you and your spouse that I've read...and I'm a reader! Most books regarding childbirth and childrearing seem to feel the need to instill a lot of guilt if you don't follow what they recommend as THE way to do things. Lorilee Craker discussed different methods/schools of thought, as well as testimonials from women who had used the various approaches and why. No campaigning for one particular method, just an honest look at the options. Her treatment of the topics of body image and post-partum depression were the most sensitive and hopeful I've read. I buy this book for every new mother I know!
