Rating: Summary: A Great Read! Review: I read this book while flying into Chicagofor a business meeting. My wife insisted that I take it along because we have two teenage daughters. This little book helped me to quickly gain a better understanding of the problems that kids face in our society. After reading Dangerous Dating I feel better prepared for action should my daughters slip into a violent relationship, but hopefully this will never happen, especially now that I am aware of the clues and prevention measures that were outlined in several chapters. The author made me feel empowered as a dad, giving me sound advice and practical information that I can actually use.
Rating: Summary: Well Intentioned But Overly Simplistic. Review: The author encourages parents to take a controlling and authoritarian approach to parenting. Advising young men to join the 'Promise Keepers' to learn about good relationships would have to go down in history as the silliest violence prevention strategy I have ever come across. She has a chatty easy to read writing style, which parents will relate to, and I don't doubt her good intentions and commitment to eradicating violence, but I fear any parent who actually tries to implement her strategies is going to have a very difficult time.
Rating: Summary: Every High School Should Have This Book! Review: This is a great handbook for parents. Easy to read, lots of no-nonsense suggestions, and great practical advice. Every high school across America, every youth pastor, every parent, should have a copy of this book. We tell our children about the dangers of HIV, unwanted pregnacy, drugs, but we do not take the time to talk to our daughters about the dangers of dating violence. Time to incorporate this information for our daughters.
Rating: Summary: Great Handbook For Parents Review: This is a great little handbook for parents wishing to know more about how to protect their daughters from violent relationships. All of the information is there: How to help, where to go for resources, plus lots of compassion for parents and teens alike who have been in the grip of a violent relationship. I have read a lot of books on the topic of domestic violence and teen dating relationships but this book is by far the very best, mainly because the author obviously is not wrapped up in theory. Her information is based on real-life cases that have a connective quality with the reader.
