Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Gave me insight into human relationships of all kinds. Review: "Meeting the Challenge of Parenting in the West: An Islamic Perspective," is valuable on many levels, whether you're currently a parent or not (which I am not). It allowed me insight into human relationships and how to be a good partner and how to prepare to be a good parent. I am not Muslim, but found the practical illustrations of relationship issues in this book to be universal in their directness and simplicity. Being able to look through the eyes of another culture at how to raise children in North America (my culture) has also offered me such a unique and valuable perspective on my own upbringing.

Review: Firstly, we would like to thank the reviewers for their kind reviews. Secondly, we would like to share with you what we believe are the main strengths of Parenting in the West: An Islamic Perspective. From the feedback that we have received from many readers, we believe that our book has three main strengths:1. All the principles in the book are based on authentic references from the Qur'an and the teachings of Prophet Mohamed peace be upon him. 2. Every principle in the book is supported by many practical examples which are very helpful in illustrating how the concept can be applied in real life. 3. We use very simple language that is easy for everybody to understand. We have also received many comments that this book's concepts are universal. It is useful and applicable in the lives of both Muslims and non-Muslims. Please allow us to share with you an excerpt of the foreword of the book written by Ahmed Elkadi. "This small volume touches the mind and the heart of the reader. It is essential, not only for parents, but for anyone who deals with human beings. I feel that this book should be required reading for young men and women who plan to get married, for counselors of all types and specialties, and for any professional who relies on effective relationships with people for professional success. . . . One of the many beauties of the book is the real life model of the author's family that reflects, proves, and augments the educational material contained therein."
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: An enlightening book for non-Muslims, too Review: I purchased this book for parents of one of my students, as a present; and then apologized to them for reading it before they got to see it. I opened it, just to take a quick peek, and found it so interesting I didn't want to set it down. The excerpts from the Qu'ran, the insights into the values of American Muslim families, the balance of heart and head, make this a wonderful book. This book has nothing to do with politics - it is purely about parenting and the priorities Muslim families place on providing guidelines/boundaries with love, for their children. It has a very good section on the affects of television on all families, and the importance of both setting limits and talking with children about what they see and hear in the media. The book gives non-Muslims a rare glimpse into the parenting messages of the Qu'ran and to see the similarities in families of ALL faiths when it comes to child rearing. This book is definitely worthwhile reading for teachers who want to be more sensitive and supportive to Muslim students and their parents.

From a broader perspective, I feel this book has great ideas to offer any parent in dealing with their children in a more positive, compassionate and yet disciplined manner, instilling in one's children proper manners and behavior as well as morals.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Excellent book. Much needed. Review: This really is an awesome book for parents who have children or are thinking to have children. I myself am not married, and I still found it helpful, since raising good children starts even before marriage, with raising yourself first. I read this book cover to cover and memorized it. If every Muslim parent reads this book, then the next generation is going to be really awesome!
