What's also helpful is that in her book, Hoy uses other women's experiences and horror stories. For example, one woman strongly advises not to leave your house or your children to 'cool off' for even 24 hours, as that could be considered abandonment. Take the children with you, especially if you are in an abusive situation. Another piece of advice for women is to open their own bank account NOW. No matter what your circumstances, do not give up your financial independence. It's crucial to have your own source of income and/or cash. Take nothing for granted.
None of the stories in the book are sugar-coated. These are true stories of physical and mental abuse; thankfully most of the women came through it all by being stronger and wiser.

I admire Angela Hoy's courage, tenacity and ability to get the word out to women who either think they need help, or for women who are certain they need help. I highly recommend this book to all women. The more information you have, the more power you have to help yourself to a better life.
