Rating: Summary: An ode to family and to God's love Review: A work of tremendous poetry. The author describes his growth out of a childhood of extreme pain and anger in an incredibly dysfunctional family into a life of love and commitment in a family of biblical proportions - he has been blessed with two loving wives and seven children! How was this possible? Through the love of Christ. He was/is the foundation upon which the author could build an intact life, and He is the sustaining power in the author's life.I think everyone should read this book. In it we find the redemptive power of God's love very poignantly described. Read it and reflect on your own life. Maybe you should have (more of) God's life-giving love in your life? And before you condemn the author for his being married to two women simultaneously, read your Bible more carefully and with an open heart. You'll discover that polygamy is no where condemned. Quite the contrary.
Rating: Summary: Family Review: After reading this book it reminds me how wonderful family is. You never know what you have until you are able to see someone with less. This is a fantastic book about family and love and endurance of that love. You will find yourself crying, laughing and hoping for a better life for everyone. This man and this family is not perfect but they have found a way to have a wonderful life together and I think that he and his wives and their children are a great model for American families.
Rating: Summary: A book on dysfunction - NOT a book on poly. Review: I agree with the previous reviews in that it is a chronical of life born into hellish dysfunction and the long hard road "up and out". The multiple partner, or polygamy, aspect of their life is really a very small side note in the overall theme of the book. If you are looking for a book about overcoming hardship and finding God, then get this book. If you are looking for insights into building a working multi- partner marriage, then I'd look to "Love Without Limits" or some other poly relationship books.
Rating: Summary: A word from/about the author Review: i believe it worth noting that a person guilty of such incestuous acts as retold in the book would feel a need to slander the author. i would encourage readers to consider that the author chose not to hide names which would have protected himself from potential legal liable claims. should anyone choose to deny the validity of the story there are venues to seek remedies, namely the courts. the author can prove his claims, otherwise the publisher would not have put himself in a position of potential liable.
now, concerning the other slanderous claims against the author's character. the fact is that the author was arrested for having a weapon on school property. however, this charge was subsequently dropped, and the school district paid the balance of his contract. this too, is public record. so, it would appear that the author indeed did nothing criminal after all.
this book is not about telling people how to live. it is not about giving advice or giving an example. this book is merely about a personal journey. others will take from it what they will and it is only fair that anyone who chooses be able to attack the book, and i suppose even the author.
this is not a perfect man, and no where in his book will you find him giving advice. so potential readers, take the attacks with a grain of salt and realize they come from those less favored in the book.
Rating: Summary: You changed my mind! Review: I have found this book to be brilliantly written by a young man that is indeed a word merchant. I couldn't put it down and dreaded for the end to come because I enjoyed it so much. I look forward to many more heart-happy works by Brian.

Rating: Summary: You changed my mind! Review: I met Brian. . . and I didn't like him. However, after reading his book and actually giving the man a chance, I find myself unable to dislike him anymore. He is a wonderful teacher, a gifted man in working with troubled youth, and by every single account, a wonderful father and husband. His book gives those that ask "why" insight to his choices, and I defy anyone to really pass harsh judgement on him (as I mistakenly did) once they know the reasons for his choices. Perhaps there is something in his message to us all. Thank you Brian for being the loving, funny, CONSISTANT, man I have come to admire. Wherever you go as a man and a teacher, you will be appreciated.
