Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A useful, modern, guide for rearing children with values. Review: I am the author of this book which will be published by Paulist Press in December 1998. It is in paperback and is 169 pages. The title has been changed slightly and now is, "Golden Rules For Parenting, A Child Psychiatrist Discovers The Bible." The book compares parenting methods discovered during my thirty year child psychiatry practice with the parenting instructions found in the Holy Bible. Starting at Genesis I let the Bible lead me as I wrote about child rearing topics which were either directly mentioned in the Bible or which stimulated me to write. Chapters include: "The Bible As A Child Rearing Manual" "The Genes In The Jeans" "The Important First Five Years" "Parents, Messengers For God's Love" "What Is Quality Time?" "Giving Your Child A Good And Long Life" "Discipline Is Love" "Education Is not The Answer" "The Perils Of Wealth" "Sabotaging Parenting With Sleep-Overs" "Sexual Behavior Of Children" "Sexual Abuse Of Children" "Divorce And Child Custody" "Sending Your Child To College" "Prayer And Parenting" The book was originally written for the use of my grown children and has become a positive influnce on our grandchildren. Dan A. Myers, M.D.

Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Great book to read and apply Review: I love this book and have recommended it to many friends, Christians or non-Christians. Yes, it does have immediate guidances on what to do and what not to, but it is beyond the details. The rules plot a big picture for parenting in many years to come, not only how to deal with a hard problem now. I see different ways of dealing current problems with my 3-year-old if I am considering only now, or I am thinking about what kind of person I want him to be in 20 years. It is easy to read, easy to follow.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Hogwash Review: Physician, heal thyself. I cringe at the specter of a psychiatrist who would seriously use an ancient book of superstition, myth, and legend as a guide to anything, and this book contributes nothing new that is of value, with or without its specious references to the Bible. It seems apparent that the author is simply using the Bible as a sales gimmick for this mundane and unoriginal repackaging of child rearing advice that can be found in much more engaging formats in countless other sources.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A great resource with practical applications. Review: This book is a great resource on how to be better parents and how to avoid pitfalls of parenting in a ever fast-changing world. I am a teacher and found the book easy to read, understand, and apply to my daily work. It gives excellent examples as well as good parenting techniques for adults to use in child-rearing. I highly reccommend it!
