Rating: Summary: If you are going thru changes, you must read this Review: I am currently going thru a very painful seperation with an unfaithful husband. The circumstances in this book are similiar. I found myself identifying with the character Regina totally. Girlfriend even smokes the same brand of cigarettes that I do...Capre menthol 120s. This book got so deep and personal that there were many times that I had to put it down because my body began to shake. This book is definately a must read. I guarantee that you will not be disappointed. Trust me.
Rating: Summary: Good First Novel Review: I really enjoyed reading this book, it was a nice easy read. It was a very interesting story, and I commend the author on her first novel. I could not give the book 5 stars, however, because there were some things that took away from the book. As one reviewer mentioned, there was just TOO MUCH NAME DROPPING! I understand that the author was trying to convey the financial and material success of the main characters, but the mentioning of name brand clothes, perfumes, and cars was a bit too much. Also, Regina's story was just too predictable! In spite of my criticisms of the book, I did enjoy it and kept in mind that this was the author's first novel. I think she has real talent, and I will read more books by her in the future.
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable, but.... Review: Okay, before I get started, I must say, overall, I enjoyed the book. I was glad that it had somewhat of a 'happy ending' and that the main characters pretty much made out okay. I enjoyed them both, and I could identify with them in several ways. BUT - the severe name-dropping at many inopportune moments in the book REALLY really bothered me. I personally really do not have a need to know about what the characters are wearing in EVERY scene. I normally feel that this kind of criticism is OVERLY critical, but the name-dropping was really extreme. Other than that, the book was really okay for a first effort, and I do look forward to reading the next book.
Rating: Summary: GREAT BOOK Review: I READ THIS BOOK ABOUT A YEAR AGO BUT I STILL HAVE SOME OF THE ISSUES FRESH IN MY MIND. THIS WAS A GREAT, EASY TO READ NOVEL THAT DEALT WITH THE JOY AND PAIN OF MARRIED LIFE. I SHARED THIS BOOK WITH SEVERAL OF MY CO-WORKERS AND I TELL YOU THIS BOOK MADE SOME MAD, LAUGH AND CRY. KIM, THANKS FOR SHOWING HOW WOMEN OF THE 90'S DEAL WITH RELATIONSHIP DRAMA. WE NO LONGER STAY IN UNHEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS. KIM, I WILL CONTINUE TO READ YOUR WORK. I AWAIT YOU NEXT BOOK. YOU ARE GETTING BETTER WITH EACH ONE. BE BLESSED!
Rating: Summary: one for the collection Review: I enjoyed reading this book. The characters were real and the story was well written. It's just too bad that the main characters had to put up with foolish men but that's what really made the book feel real.
Rating: Summary: This is an excellent book. Review: I really enjoyed this book. I picked it up and could not put it down until I was finished reading it. This story is about a great friendship between two successful black women. It shows that even though you think you have everything you need, something can happen to tear your world apart. I loved how Regina and Karen handled the their trials and overcame them. This is a book that you did not want to end. Thanks Kimberly for the excellent book.
Rating: Summary: An Easy Read Review: I had read this book once before, and as I was going through my numerous books, I decided to re-read this one. When I first read it I didn't realize how much name dropping the author did. I mean did we really have to know what kind of outfit each character had on or that it was a designer label? Come on now!! As for the book, the storyline was entertaining, but it seemed that towards the end the author just decided to quit writing and come up with an easy ending. I have also read her book Here and Now, and you can definitely tell the difference from first novel to second. Much success to Kim in the future. Peace!!
Rating: Summary: The book that got away Review: I give Kimberla Lawson-Roby an E for effort for her first novel. Her writing, unfortunately leaves a lot to be desired. Though Lawson-Roby presented some dramatic topics, her lack of writing skills lent nothing to the the juicy topics she introduced. I found her word usage to be unimaginative and trite with too much profanity thrown in here, there and everywhere just because it seemed like the thing to do. Her unemotional style of writing tends to minify the serious subjects of gambling addiction and infidelity. She glazes over these topics and especially the overly simplistic solutions to them much too lightly. The book would have come across better had the characters been more fully developed and the writing more detailed. I also think this book was poorly edited (if indeed, it was at all) and the numerous grammatical errors, misspellings and incomplete sentences took away from it even more. I think Lawson-Roby has some potential to be a fair writer, but for now she still has a long way to go.
Rating: Summary: Definite Page Turner!!!!! Review: Behind Closed Doors was one of the best books I ever have read. The characters and their situations were so real, I felt that I knew them. Mrs. Roby has a style all her own. I also liked it because it wasn't as predictable as some other books I've read in the past. Behind Closed Doors won't disappoint!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book Review: This book is a must-read for all of you bookworms out there like myself. Very realistic and entertaining. I enjoyed it from beginning to end. Never a dull moment.
