Rating: Summary: NICE FIRST EFFORT Review: THIS WAS DEFINITELY A VERY GOOD FIRST EFFORT, AND I DID ENJOY THE BOOK. THIS THE THIRD BOOK BY THIS AUTHOR THAT I HAVE HAD THE PLEASURE OF READING. TO ANYONE WHO READS THIS REVIEW, I STRONGLY SUGGEST READING "BEHIND" FIRST AND THEN GOING ON TO THE OTHERS. HER SOPHOMORE THEN JUNIOR EFFORTS WERE A LOT BETTER THAN THE FIRST. THIS ONE GOT A LITTLE LONG WINDED AND TIMES WHEN IT CAME TO DESCRIBING THE CARS, JEWELS, CLOTHING, HOUSE, ETC. NOT WITHSTANDING ALL OF THIS, IT WAS ENTERTAINING, I READ IT IN 3 HOURS.
Rating: Summary: A good book Review: Kimberla did a great job with the characters Regina and Larry Moore and Karen and John Jackson. I completed this book in 2 days. I look forward to reading more of Kimberla's book.
Rating: Summary: behind close doors Review: I CAN'T SEE HOW NARROW MINDED PEOPLE CAN PUT THIS ON THE BOTTOM OF THE RATINGS. I JUST FINISHED THIS BOOK AND I FOUND IT EXCITING. IT'S EVERY DAY LIFE AND TEACHES YOU TO KEEP YOUR EYES ON FRIENDS AND LOVERS. DO NOT BE DISCOURAGE KIM BECAUSE I THINK YOUR BOOKS ARE SUPER. IF WE LOOK PAST THE SMALL THINGS AND GET INTO THE PLOT IT CAN REACH YOU. I ENJOYED VISUALIZING THE FASHIONS USED AND WORN BY THE CHARACTERS.
Rating: Summary: Awful!!!!!!!! this book disgusted me Review: I agree with each and everyone who was intelligent enough to realize this book was a complete waste of our hard-earned money and valuable time. I can't believe this writer's agent took on this book! It being her first effort is no excuse to me. Even though other reviewers have touched on the flaws very well, they're worth repeating. Too much name dropping! Okay, so the characters are upper middle-class, mention it once or twice and leave it at that. I couldn't care less about their Versace sunglasses or Gucci shoes. The prose is also amaturish, and there is way too much exposition where live action would've been better suited. Don't directly tell me so-and-so doesn't get along with her mother-in-law, show it. Anyway, I couldn't get past the second chapter, it was such torture. Maybe I'll use this book as fire wood- if I ever get a fireplace. It's going to be like burning $12, but it's my fault. I have to stop buying books because the cover art is so gorgeous. We all know the saying... Anyway, reading amazon comments BEFORE making purchases will also be a tremendous help. silly me.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining BUT poor writing skills Review: I read "Behind Closed Doors" after reading and enjoying the author's latest book, "Casting the First Stone". The difference in writing skills is like night and day. I assume Kensington Books, Ms. Roby's publisher of all but her first book made sure an editor helped before publication. Her first book was self-published, certainly a brave effort, but the lack of editing is glaring. My impression of "Behind..." was that Ms. Roby had talent, wrote an entertaining and plausible story that most people can identify with (hence the book's popularity) - HOWEVER...numerous grammatical and spelling errors, atrocious sentence construction, and a virtual altar to naked and rampant materialism (how many Coach handbags and briefcases can one describe??)were a huge and disappointing distraction. One could open a department store or two with the number of name-brands mentioned ad nauseum. If this is supposed to be a model for the attitudes of the black middle class then this country and its children are all in serious trouble. Consumerism at all cost rather than an investor/wealth-building mentality seemed to be the message. More troubling is the fact that despite these serious shortcomings the book was lauded to the skies. It is one thing to praise and encourage budding talent while offering constructive feedback to ensure constant improvement and "bigger and better things". It is quite another to ignore serious flaws and lavish awards instead. It is like awarding an A for C- or D work - how does this benefit the author?? A disturbing thought is that there is such a dearth of good writing that there are no standards anymore. Either people do not read at all or do not remember what good writing looks like. As a result anything that seems entertaining is assumed to equate to 5 stars. Read her latest book to see the difference, then revaluate this first book.
Rating: Summary: Good Book Review: This is a good book... I couldn't put it down. It kept my intrest the entire time, and I red it less than one week... I recommend this book to anyone.

Rating: Summary: Hard to put down Review: This is my firsrt time reading Kimerla Lawson Roby book and I found it intriging. She went to much on describing on what they wore that I started to skip lines, but the book was easy to read. Regina had mad me mad in the beginning cause I thought she didn't have a back bone it came to a point while I was reading that I wanted to shake her to her sense's, but at the end her back bone has strengthen up thanks to her friend Karen. I recommned this book to all the wives and their friends. It's a page turner.
Rating: Summary: very LIGHT reading Review: Great story-line! Poor character development and an easily GUESSABLE ending. There are very contemporary as well as traditional issues surrounding marriage and relationships and Ms. Roby MISSED her opportunity. By dwelling and wasting space on what color and style of clothing and hosiery the characters were wearing, she failed to clue us in on who Regina, Larry, Karen and John really are!
Rating: Summary: FANTASTIC Review: I enjoyed this book so much that I read it twice. Just finish with Here and Now another fantastic book by Ms. Roby.
