Summary: A very simplistic view of melanoma and treatment of same.
Review: As a stage IV melanoma patient, I found this book to be overly simplistic in its views and treatment of melanoma. I have never heard a doctor say it is "totally curable" as it can show up many years later with even a different primary, but yet this book states if "caught early it can be totally cured." The book is a good basis for someone that is just wanting to learn about melanoma but not do serious research. This book could be better if it spent more time researching the genetics of melanoma and less time concentrating totally on the sunscreen aspect of melanoma. Many patients that are not "sun worshipers" or have not had sun burns still contract melanoma.

Melanoma is not only a personal issue for Ms. Poole but also a national warning in the fight to prevent the deadly cancer melanoma. Ms. Poole spends a great deal of time talking about the prevention, early detection, and the latest treatments for melanoma. In addition, she has written a book that is comprehensive, yet written for everyone to understand. Early detection is the real key to warding off melanoma and escaping invasive and potentially dangerous cancer. She includes many excellent photos of what "normal" skin marks and moles look like and what "abnormal" or dangerous marks and moles look like. This is an invaluable resource for the whole family.

Summary: Melanoma delivers a wealth of understandable information
Review: From the perspective of melanoma patient and physician expert, we deliver a wealth of easy to understand information about melanoma, a life-threatening skin cancer. The color photo insert alone will save lives as it teaches immediately how to recognize melanoma in its early stages. The melanoma patient and family will be empowered by this book to work effectively as a partner with their doctor to get the best treatment and will learn ways to cope psychologically with this serious disease. Hopefully, this book will motivate people to avoid too much sun and protect their kids from excessive sun exposure so melanoma may become a disease of the past.

Summary: A daily reference guide
Review: I bought this book with a little hesitation because I didn't want to just read sad, depressing stories. It is not that at all. It is my daily reference guide-when I think of a question, need a word defined, I go to this book. It isn't over simplified, and it has a great reference section in the back.

Review: My mother has melanoma and this book helped us understand what to do. It has lots of pictures and illustrations to guide you. Right away you know what melanoma looks like. The medical terms are easy to understand.

Review: Obviously a book with a limited audience, but if you need this information it's a good overview. The body of the book is straightforward and not overly technical. Some good diagrams and photos. Read it and spare your doctor the embarrassing questions.

Review: Poole and Guerry have written an easily accessible book. The pictorial content, drawings and photography, further enhances the educational impact . They will undoubtedly save many lives through their thoughtful use of language and approach. As a concerned Floridian I have recommended "Melanoma" to other friends and even to my dermatologist. Thank you for publishing this fine book.

Review: this book is so great. it helped me with my melanoma. it helped me understand all about this disease. it made me feel good that someone else had been there too. this helped me and my husband through this terrible time. The photos and illustrations were terrific.
