Rating: Summary: I felt the hurt and pain of this child. Review: This book was great. It opened my eyes to what a child can actually go through and survive. I would read a chapter and have to put the book down to cry. I'm not talking about a little cry either. It changed my outlook on life. I now look at children in a different light. I look for the hurt in their eyes.
Rating: Summary: I FELT HS PAIN THOUGH I WAS NOT ABUSED MYSELF Review: I WOULD HAVE LIKED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO THE MOTHER OF THIS MAN. I CANT BELIEVE THAT A HUMAN CAN TREAT ANOTHER HUMAN THAT WAY. IT JUST BOGGLES MY MIND.
Rating: Summary: Astounding Review: I borrowed this book from a friend for something to read. As I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. The heart wrenching tales of this poor boy had me holding my breath at times. After an hour and a half of reading, I finished the book. I found it hard to sleep that night, thinking about the pain David endured. My heart goes out to him, and to all others who are in similar situations.
Rating: Summary: Earth-shattering, Painfully Moving Real Life Story Review: When I started to read this book, I could not put it down! I was planning on just browsing through it in the bookstore and ended up reading half of the book right there. This story will shake every fiber of your being. This horrifying story of the abuse this boy suffered at the hands of his mother will have you almost feeling exactly what he felt, seeing things as he saw them and will allow you to experience the amazing inner strength it took to survive. Everyone should own a copy of this book. It is not one you will want to read again, but everyone should read it.
Rating: Summary: THIS IS A VERY INSPIRATIONAL BOOK-HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Review: AS SOON AS I BOUGHT THIS BOOK I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. THE ONLY REASON THAT I DID NOT FINISH READING IT IN ONE DAY WAS BECAUSE I HAD TO GO TO SLEEP. I FOUND MYSELF SCREAMING AT DAVID'D MOTHER EVERYTIME SHE PLAYED OF HER CRUEL "GAMES". THATS HOW INTENSE THIS BOOK IS. BECAUSE OF THIS BOOK I WAS ABLE TO PUT BAD OCCURENCES THAT HAVE HAPPENED TO ME,IN THE PAST, AND THINK ABOUT THE FUTURE. DAVID TAUGHT ME THAT ALTHOUGH LIFE SOMETIMES HAS TREATED ME HARSH, THOSE INCIDENTS HAVE ONLY MADE ME A STRONGER PERSON. THANK YOU!
Rating: Summary: best book I've read--couldn't put it down Review: As I already said, I think this is the best book I have ever read. I read it on the way to Florida during Spring Vacation, 1998. I couldn't and didn't put it down until I was finished reading it. I am a slow reader and I don't read very much at all--which says even more just how excellent this book is. My mother-in-law read it after me and was just as impressed as I was and she reads a lot. She read the book overnight. I am eager to read The Lost Boy. Has he finished his final book yet--A man named Dave?
Rating: Summary: Remarkable man! Review: David Pelzer is a man to look up to! I couldn't put down "A Child Called It" and was truly incredulous that any mother could treat her child like that or that any father could allow such treatment. This book is so compelling and sad. David Pelzer opens your eyes and shows you that in spite of some terrific odds you can overcome anything. My problems are so insignificant when I stop to realize everything that this incredible human being has been through and rather than use his upbringing as an excuse to waste his life he has chosen to inspire so many people. He forces you to re-examine just what is important in life and put things in perspective. Thank you, David Pelzer, for sharing your life with us. You deserve everything wonderful in life. Take care and God Bless.
Rating: Summary: How can a mother be so cruel. Review: It's unimaginable what happened to David. I read the book feeling horror, compassion, and sadness for this child who was so innocent in all this. What kind mother would do this to her child? Better yet, what kind of father would watch?
Rating: Summary: the best book i have ever read Review: this book is very real and horrible case of one of the most disgusting things a woman could ever do to any child no matter who's child it was and i will continue to read it as long as i have it and will not let child abuse go by my eyes and leave it alone. thank you David for this sad but heroic tale of courage.
Rating: Summary: A heart-wrenching book Review: This book is so disturbing, yet fascinating. I feel that anyone who has a child or is contemplating becoming a parent needs to read this book. Granted, this story took place in the 60's and 70's but with everything that has been done to highlight child abuse, it is a sad fact that this still happens in our society. David Pelzer is a true hero, and the good he has done with his life in an inspiration to me.
