Rating: Summary: Very much worth a shot Review: Considering that Ritalin is grossly overprescribed in the US, perhaps other treatments should be considered. Homeopathy is one of them. I don't know how homeopathy works, and I don't think anyone does, but it many cases it does work. That's all that matters. If your child has been diagnosed as having ADD or other behavioral and learning problems, and you have reservations about Ritalin, then it wouldn't hurt -- and just might help -- to take a look at this book.
Rating: Summary: A must read for those looking for a safer alternative! Review: Excellent, concise, easy to follow. If you have a child who's behavior is causing you and their teachers/caregivers concern (whether it's ADD/ADHD or not), or that their personality is just too much to handle at times (too intense, obsessive, easily overwhelmed etc), or you are adverse to the possibility of your child having to take Ritalin etc, this book is a must read! We have taken our daughter to a naturopatic physican for over a year now, and the treatment she has received has made all the difference in the world! This book will change your life (and that of your child/children).
Rating: Summary: lifestyle counts more Review: I had ADD. Ritalin is a terrible cure, but snake-oil might be worse. To anyone who is affected by these issues, I say look seriously at lifestyle: diet, sleep patters, and whether the bloody school work is interesting enough. Rather spend your time reading about these topics first. Your child may be on the same unbalanced diet as you, but have some biochemical quirk that robs him/her of the ability to deal with the imbalance.
Rating: Summary: Good book for intermediate homeopaths Review: I've been using/studying homeopathy for 8 years. Using homeopathy is not a quick fix, and you will find that it may be necessary to use different remedies over a period of time as you start eliminating symptoms. With 1 child on the autistic specturm and another child with dyslexia and ADHD, I can say that you have to also include dietary changes and behavior modifications, and various necessary therapies. I found homeopathy an aide to these therapies. In the past 2 years both children have improved so much, that I actually had to argue with the school that my high functioning autistic child was still autistic but the symptoms are more subtle. He has never been on any medications. My ADHD child is on Zoloft, which helped tremendously with his anxiety. With homeopathy remedies, he no longer tantrums, he's patient, has great long term memory and completes long term tasks with wonderful focus. This book has helped me find the other not used very often remedies to deal with the impulsivity and his slow response to auditory information. It might be that he will always need traditional medication for a chemical imbalance for his anxiety. I find the homeopathics help excelerate the healing process in both my children. This book is the best I've found so far, in eliminating the remaining individual symptoms of ADHD. Last year they were going to put my child on Ritalyn, now the Psychiatrist feels that it's not needed anymore.

Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE Review: Ritalin-Free Kids has changed our lives. I have taken my daughter to see Dr. Ullman and she is now a new person. She was border line ADD and the next step was Ritalin. There were so many things she was not able to do. Ride her bike, swim, go across the monkey bars, tie her shoes, control her emotions and more. She also had unusal dislikes. She could not stand the smell of any fruit product or buble gum. She did not like any fruit drink or punch. At 18 months of age, she suddenly stop speaking and did not start again until age 3. Her speech came only after I enrolled her in a special education class for speech. Traditional doctors have not been able to explain why this occured, but Dr. Ullman could. My daughter can do all the activities I listed eariler. It was turly a Godsend and I thank God for Physicians like the Ullmans. Everyone should consider this option before putting themselves or their children on addictive drugs like Ritalin. Homeopathy should be our first option, not our last..BUY THIS BOOK, YOU'LL BE GLAD YOU DID.

Rating: Summary: Wrong Phone Number in Book Review: There is a phone number in this book that is wrong. It is my son's cell phone number. The number starts 408-421-05**. (I don't want to put the whole thing online, for obvious reasons. It is for some homeopathic place recommended in the book. If the publisher and editor would PLEASE correct this, we'd have a bit more peace in our household, and wouldn't run over our alloted minutes on the cell phone bill. The book may or may not be great, but if one phone number in it is wrong, probably more are.
Rating: Summary: Treating ADHD with snake oil? Review: This book has not increased my confidence in homeopathy as a viable treatment for ADHD. At least half of this book is dedicated to reports of ADHD children who were put on homeopathic medicines to treat their conditions. Unfortunately, authors Judyth Reichenberg-Ullman and Robert Ullman don't spend a lot of time explaining exactly how homeopathy is supposed to work on ADHD children in the first place. The authors cover the basics of homeopathy to a certain extent, but they never really get around to explaining the evidence in support of the premise that "Weaker is Stronger." In page 123, however, they state, "Homeopathy admittedly does not work on a biochemical level." Instead, they promote it as a form of "energy medicine." The authors definitely seem to care about ADHD kids, and they do offer practical advice to parents on a strictly non-medical level. However, stories extolling highly-diluted substances that are supposed to tweak my "vital force" don't sway me as much as hard scientific data. I have ADHD, and I take Ritalin to help keep it under control. If the authors can demonstrate the actual mechanisms by which homeopathic medications can cure or treat ADHD in a clinical setting, I'm all ears. I like to keep an open mind, but not so open that my ability to reason falls out.
