Rating: Summary: From a skeptic: The most moving and inspiring book I've read Review: I was skeptical at first about all these books so I never thought about reading any of them until I was sitting at a car repair shop one day for a couple of hours and a woman asked me if I wanted to read a really good story. I wasn't doing anything so I thought why not? After I read one story, I was so moved by it that I instantly became hooked into believing how one person can make a difference...I have bought 3 of the series and am convinced it has made me look at the world in a more positive light. Thanks to the kindness of one stranger sitting across from me at the car repair shop.
Rating: Summary: Cheesy money making vehicle Review: I'm sorry, but Chicken Soup for the Soul annoys me to no end. The stories are not original-I've seen most of them in various forms in chain letters and Ann Landers and Dear Abby. Most of them are VERY poorly written, cliched, and dumbed down. When I'm depressed, they make me feel even WORSE. I'd rather read a cynical, sarcastic very nasty story that makes me laugh-and realize I'm MUCH better off! Sorry to say, but these books are nothing but dollars for the creators. You're better off rereading childhood classics for a pick-me-up.

Rating: Summary: Very disappointed :( Review: I've heard a lot about this book, like how fabulous it is. Several people told me it's a must-read book. Several book reviews praised it so high. But I don't feel so. Just the first story of the book made me doubt its quality. The second and third, and fourth, and so on stories didn't make me feel any better. Absurd stories, nearly all of them. This is one of the overrated and overpraised books. A VERY BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. I would have rate this book -10 stars if I could.
Rating: Summary: Will shine a beautiful light into your life! Review: In my deepest, darkest hour I borrowed this book from the library. It has restored my faith in human nature and shone a light for me to follow. The stories can bring such a huge emotional release. Truly wonderful and I look forward to reading many more.

Rating: Summary: Enriching Review: Light-hearted, sad, funny, enjoyable, wonderful, likeable, tasty, rich, depressing, uplifting and all together wonderful. You name it, they've got it. If one wants to see life open up into beauty and enjoyment - it's just the turn of a page!I enjoyed this book because it had some very special stories that hit the bottom of my heart, my stomach, my toes and gave me goose pimples all over!
Rating: Summary: This book reminds you that you're not alone Review: Of all the books I have read this one stands out more than the others, I laughed, cried, and was able to relate to alot of the stories published. It's a book for everyone; mothers, fathers, single people all can be touched. Everytime life gets tough and I think there is just no end to this madness I remember that God loves us and he is always going to be there through it all.
Rating: Summary: Christians Beware Review: Overall, I'm pleased to see this sort of book gain popular acceptance in a world that seems to be getting more cynical and weary every day. There is a lot of merit and encouragement to be found in this book, and most of it is well worth reading. However, the authors also shoehorned some pretty "out there" New Age material into the book (magical healing powers of the hands, humanism, etc.) I was really taken by surprise to find some of this stuff in the midst of such otherwise positive and morally strong material. But the rest of the book is still very much worth reading.
Rating: Summary: Extremely Sentimental (And That's Being Nice) Review: Perhaps, I am too cynical. Perhaps, I have lost my innocence. But once again, I picked up a book, I thought might reach deeper, might have meaning . . . but alas, I found a book that made happiness and meaningfulness seem easy, too easy. I didn't buy it. This book tries so hard to please that it smacks of a cheesy attempt to make money on a public truly searching for meaning. Don't get me wrong, there are some wonderful stories in here but too often they are surrounded by those quick anecdotes about someone who would have comitted suicide if a stranger hadn't said I love you to them on the bus and now their life is wonderful. Or Big Ed who after one seminar finally learned to love his wife and ended-up executive vice-president. To me, this book makes me wonder why I have such a difficult time changing my life and finding true happiness. It seems so easy to these people. If you lower your expectations, feel free to read this book, you'll find a few gems. If you want short stories filled with more depth try Anthony de Mello's One Minute Nonsense or Song of the Bird. And if you are truly looking for books that will get you thinking about the meaning of it all go try John Irving's Prayer for Owen Meany or David James Duncan's River Why or Daniel Quinn's Ishmael. I found this book to be less like Chicken Soup and more like lifesavers. They sound good and taste good, but if you are really hungry they do not come close to filling you up
