Summary: This book is a godsend for new teachers.
Review: Being a new teacher is overwhelming for me. The School-Savvy Parent, 365 Insider Tips to Help You Help Your Child has helped me in communicating with the parents of my students. The book identifies the types of problems I'm already seeing in my classroom and offers tips that I can pass along to parents. I appreciate the experience of the three veteran teacher authors. It's like having a mentor around to help guide me. The book is free of educational jargon and has a very positive tone towards parents. It communicates the idea of the parent/teacher partnership in education which is the atmosphere I want to create in my classroom. I recommend it to any educator from the experienced to the novice. With our busy jobs we can use the index of this handy book to find helpful suggestions for the common problems faced by our students and their parents.

Summary: School-Savvy is not just for August and September
Review: What a wonderful treasure I uncovered when I read The School-Savvy Parent! This is not a book to be used just in August and September. You'll use this book all year. There are tips that have helped me make mornings less stressful, ease the homework anxiety, and for holiday savvy parenting. There are even examples of conversation starters that actually get my child talking about school. The School-Savvy Parent is indexed and so it's easy to use when I want to look up something specific. I take it with me while I'm waiting for soccer practice to end and enjoy snappy, humorous tips that help me help my child. No parent bashing here.
