Summary: This book is not the answer to your problems!
Review: This book, while written with the intent to help parents in crisis, falls short of that goal. There is useful information in the book, but it is hard to find as you're sifting through the chapters. Most of the information is just common sense put to use. I would not recommend this book as an answer to parents who need real life altering help. It may be useful for families dealing with the first stages of drug addiction, but most of us don't realize the problem until we're in much deeper. Spend money on this book at your own risk...I don't believe it's the answer most of you are looking for!

Summary: Yeah, read this book
Review: This is just another parent who went through the throws of addiction with his 2 boys. He helps you to feel not so alone and gives you strength to break away for your sake and theirs. Highly recommend.

Summary: Focuses on parents of addicts, not the addict.
Review: This is the first and only book available that's like a truly understanding friend to the parent who is suffering the verbal, emotional--and often times--physical abuse of a child (who can be anywhere from teenage to middle-age) on drugs or alcohol. These parents, confused and grief-stricken, are also loyal to their addicted kids. After all, isn't that what a good parent is supposed to do? DON'T LET YOUR KIDS KILL YOU dares to defy the traditional belief that parents of addicts must also throw their own lives away. The book, written by a father who has been throught all of this with two addicted sons, shows how he was an inch from the bottom of the barrel and how he has steadily reained some semblance of normal life by drawing boundaries with his kids and taking care of himself, focusing on healthy thinking, refusing to be manipulated, creating an environment around himself that is nurturing. All parents of addicts can achieve this. The first step is to join a support group such as Al Anon--this is a safe place to be because everyone in that room will be suffering from the same problem: dealing with an addict. You'll be able to deal with your feelings of guilt and you'll see that you didn't create the addiction in your child, that drug and alcohol addictions are diseases. DON'T LET YOUR KIDS KILL YOU is the start to recovery and a fulfilled and happy life, despite the fact that your son or daughter might be a drug addict or alcoholic. Liberation starts within the pages of this book
