Rating: Summary: One of the best how-to books on breastfeeding Review: Bestfeeding is an excellent book for new mothers wanting to breastfeed. Besides covering breastfeeding "basics", Bestfeeding also deals with many of the difficulties than can arise. Perhaps its best feature are the clear pictures depicting both good and the less-than-perfect positionings of babies on the breast--very helpful for the inexperienced breastfeeding mom. Most other books only give line drawings of a proper attachment. This book shows the reader examples of poor positioning and then explains what is wrong with the picture. If a new mother is going to buy one book on breastfeeding before she has her baby, this is the one I recommend.

Rating: Summary: My favorite breastfeeding book! (and I have lots) Review: Breastfeeding is a learned skill. I think reading this book while still pregnant is one of the best things a mom can do to have a good breastfeeding experience. It doesn't always come naturally, and it's not always easy right away, and this book is the best source of problem-solving information and advice that I have seen. It is very practical, and does the best job of showing how Not to do it to help us figure out how To do it. I think that's the key- helping moms get through any problems that come up, because it's so worth it! I'm so glad I had this book (along with great family support), and I'm so glad I nursed my daughter!
Rating: Summary: The Publisher, Ten Speed Press Review: Breastfeeding is by far the best way to feed a baby. Most women find it difficult to do without help, and it can be hard to find the right help. This book is about getting breastfeeding right for mothers and their babies, including:--How to establish breastfeeding well in the early days and weeks --How to resolve any problems quickly and easily --With many detailed photographs and illustrations throughout A completely and thoroughly revised and updated new edition
Rating: Summary: fewer words, more pictures, more information Review: Excellent! Shows a new breastfeeding mother how to position a newborn properly. Many books do a better job of explaining subjects like why breastfeed, weening, and introducing solids (like the LaLeche Bible (oops I mean manual)), but this book has pictures of how to position that little one. Breastfeeding is natural, but there are some things to do right to make the experience positive and to increase the chance of a longer nursing relationship. This book will get you, baby (and dad) off to a great start.
Rating: Summary: This book was a lifesaver when I had my first child Review: For anyone who is expecting a child, this is the best resource I've found for information on breastfeeding. Every problem I experienced was covered here, with lots of reassurance and encouragement to keep me going during those night feedings!
Rating: Summary: EH, it was ok. Review: I decided I wanted to breastfeed my child when she was born, so I thought I would get a bit of information. My mother gave me some advice, my mother-in-law gave me some advice and a few friends gave me their insight. I found this book to be redundant and not any more informative than my mother's advice. Given, she is a maternal and child health care worker, but still, I expected more from this book. I only picked it up once or twice. I suffered from mastitis, and my daughter developed some late 'nipple confusion', and the book didn't give me any new help, that my mom couldn't give me. I would honestly choose Kathleen Huggins' book next time.
Rating: Summary: Great Book!!! Review: I got this book because of the problems (lack of educated help) I encountered trying to breastfeed my daughter. I ended up formula feeding her before I left the hospital, feeling totally depressed and feeling like I really missed out on something special. When I found out I was pregnant again, I decided that I WILL breastfeed this baby (due in September). But, I also knew that I was going to need more help than I got the first time around to make this successful. After reading about the first 10 pages or so of this book, I was able to identify why I was having such difficulty nursing my daughter. (Which made me mad all over again about the whole experience. If I had had a person that could have truly observed me and my daughter, they would have been able to show me exactly what I was doing wrong.) If I had had this book the first time around, I feel I would have continued to nurse my daughter successfully for many months to come. This next nursing experience, I believe, will be totally different and I'm looking forward to it! The text and tons of actual photos in the book are a little "old," I think. But if you think about it, what has changed in breastfeeding in thousands of years, right? Everything you need to know about getting yours and your baby's position right for the perfect latch is in this book! I couldn't ask for a better book to teach someone the basics of nursing. It certainly has taught me a ton and I truely thought I was well prepared the first time. The only thing this book doesn't really cover much is the problems that can arise while nursing. But I got "The Nursing Mother's Problem Solver" by Claire Martin to cover that! I will recommend this book to every mother wanting to have a great breastfeeding experience!
Rating: Summary: great for the 1st time mom Review: I knew that I was going to breastfeed my 1st baby, no matter what anyone told me, and my midwife recommended this book to me. I think I read it 3 times in total. it is absolutely excellent, the author reviews key points throughout, so when you are done, you have a very firm grasp on how to be successful at breastfeeding, as well as giving lots of troubleshooting ideas. The pictures are excellent. Overall an A+ !!
Rating: Summary: As Good As It Gets Review: I know that my baby had a hard time learning to breastfeed. If I hadn't educated myself through a lactation course and this book, I would have given up at the start. Even with all this help, we still never really got it right. I stayed sore the whole time, and I quit at about 6 1/2 weeks. I feel that it was worth it in that my son got a "boost" to his immune system from my breast milk. Educate yourself, and hang in there.
